There might be no such a thing as a perfect guy, but Xavier Rush comes disastrously close. A gorgeous veterinarian giving Greek god vibes—all while cuddling a tiny kitten? Immediately yes. That is until Xavier opens his mouth and proves that even sculpted gods can say the absolute wrong thing. Like, really wrong. Of course, there’s nothing Samantha loves more than proving an asshole wrong…

. . . unless, of course, he can admit he made a mistake. But after one incredible and seemingly endless date—possibly the best in living history—Samantha is forced to admit the truth, that her family is in crisis and any kind of relationship would be impossible. Samantha begs Xavier to forget her. To remember their night together as a perfect moment, as crushing as that may be.

Only no amount of distance or time is nearly enough to forget that something between them. And the only thing better than one single perfect memory is to make a life—and even a love—worth remembering.

💭 T H O U G H T S

Say You'll Remember Me needs no introduction - this book has been absolutely everywhere and on so many most anticipated lists, mine included. Knowing it would include a long-distance relationship and a dementia storyline, both deeply personal to me, had me dropping everything to pick it up upon release.

Told in dual POVs, the undeniable connection between Samantha and Xavier leapt off the page from the very start. Their 'date' was a whirlwind, yet wholesome and believable. I liked both of the main characters, yet it's Xavier who really steals the show - Abby has delivered another cinnamon roll MMC. The side characters each have their place and help move the plot along. And I absolutely loved that the relationship doesn't take the front seat, which is so often the case in romance novels. Rather their relationship builds a solid foundation where they must openly communicate with one another - a reality of long distance love.

One of the biggest critiques from readers has been its sad and depressing tone, yet to me, it mirrors reality so perfectly. I loved all of those hard emotions. It shows how life isn't always easy and clear cut and it felt like it could the type of scenario that could happen in real life. The exploration of grief and caregiving was realistic, showcasing the tolls each can take on individuals and relationships. It also demonstrates how people handle situations differently and need different things. Additionally, the Xavier's toxic familial relationship was absolutely heartbreaking, and I thought that part of the plot was well executed as well - the continually pull for approval and acceptance despite years of neglect and abuse.

If I am being really nitpicky I really didn't love the TikTok/social media aspect of the plot, which felt like filler, as though Abby is catering to a specific crowd of people. There were a handful of scenes intended to be funny, yet were ridiculous and felt like her ticking boxes for the TikTok crowd. I understand the marketing power of the platform for authors, it just didn't feel like authentic Abby.

Say You'll Remember Me was the perfect companion and comfort read during my recent bout with pneumonia. I laughed. I cried. I swooned. I ached. Abby has a way of creating the most dynamic characters and readable stories with real life emotions - it's the reason I connect with her books so much. This one is up there among my favourites of hers and I will continue to read everything she writes!

I will never pick up another Abby Jimenez book without reading reviews of it first.  I hated this book.  I'm giving it three stars because Abby is a great writer.  The character development, plot, her writing style, and the interwoven theme of memory were all artistically well done.  But, the entire book felt like being locked in a room with my depression with nothing to distract me.  I wish I had read the trigger warnings, because it was nothing sexual that's triggering.

Dementia is an absolutely devastating illness, and watching it destroy Stephanie's life and family was heartbreaking.  Xavier might be one of my favorite book boyfriends ever, but watching him struggle between his financial commitments and his desire to be with Stephanie was grueling.  The financial struggles of the two main characters was also exhausting.  I guess what I'm trying to say is that it was just a little too real.  And, there wasn't any spicy action to distract from the horrible situations these two found themselves in.

Abby always hurts me in the best way - her characters are always flawed in relatable ways, and they hurt like real people do. Even when her late generation-x/elder millennial humor gets hokey, Abby always manages to squeeze my heart in a vice of real, human love. I told my husband (with whom I did the LDR thing for 3 non-consecutive years) that I didn’t need to wish for the kind of love Xavier gives, because I get to live it every day.

Another knock out from Abby Jimenez. I absolutely adored this book. I refused to put it down and read it in one sitting. I was so engrossed in the story! I cannot pick a favorite of Abby's books because they are all so special. They all get the gold medal.

Synopsis: Samantha has a meet cute with Xavier, a veterinarian. They go on a date a day before she's permanently leaving for California which is 2000 miles away from Xavier. They both feel strong feelings for each other. Xavier decides to put in the effort and work 80 hours a week including weekends so he can go meet Samantha. Samantha had to move to be with her family as her mom has dementia. Xavier can't move to California to be with her as he set up his clinic here two years ago and is in a lot of debt cause of college and the new business.
also he had an abusive relationship with his parents. His parents being narcissistic expected him to fail. So to stick it into them, he couldn't just close his clinic and move. But ultimately he does move as Hank (who inspired him to become a vet) steps in and his oldie friends start working in Xavier's clinic. And Xavier moves to California. This was actually a better ending cause he never got a family. And now he can.

I was instantly hooked to the story. The meet-cute was reallllly cute. Their love story was realistic. Their problems were realistic. I guess I loved this book too much cause I'm in a long distance relationship?! Could be.

This was my second Abby Jimenez book. First was PART OF YOUR WORLD. And what I've noticed is her books aren't gheesa-peeta romance book where the couple meets, they start dating and fall in love, have sex, there's some miscommunication or something happens so they break up and then end back together. With her books, yes cause its a romance novel ofc they'll be together, BUT HOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And that's one other thing that keeps me going. They mystery of how they make it work and be together. It's beautiful.

What I loved:
The writing. Beautiful quotes. Some of my favorites are at the end of this review.
The author did a good job of what it does to the family when a member has dementia. Very realistic.
The humor, loved all the mustard jokes.
No smut scenes (they're to a very minimum and that's how I like it)

Book Quotes:
“There is nothing more beautiful than being a witness to someone’s life. To know them inside and out and to be with them through everything, share the same memories. Memories are everything.”

"I want someone who knows everything there is to know about me, and I want to know everything about them. I want to be able to say one out-of-context comment to someone and they get what it means and they laugh and it’s just some stupid joke from like eleven years ago that means nothing to anyone else.”

"There would be weeks upon weeks of boring gray without him and then two or three days of color."

"I could break up with him and suffer. Or I could date him and take what I could. Make memories when I could."

"Long droughts without him, with short bursts of this. This was worth it."

"The best moments don’t have to be big to be forever."

"All my best days would be like this. The two of us together. But most of our days would be spent apart."

"It’s funny how time passed now that we were together. I was always waiting. Waiting for him to be off so he could call. Waiting for him to get a second to text me, waiting for him to watch the reel I sent him two hours ago when he was in surgery. Waiting for him to come back. My life felt like it was on pause."

"Love is the brightest color in a gray world."
