This is a great children's book from the Little People, Big Dreams series, which is an amazing, educational series of books, focusing on inspirational people in the world.

This book focuses on Tenzing Norgay, who was a mountaineer who was born in Nepal. He was awarded the Star of Nepal and the Padma Bhushan for his good work, and he also taught children mountaineering skills. He even established a trekking company that still helps people climb the Himalayas to this day. What an inspiration!

I found this book really interesting, and I really enjoyed looking at the beautiful illustrations in the book, as well as the informative text sections and photographs at the end of the book.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

I received this book from Netgalley/publisher in exchange of an honest review.

The name Tenzig Norgay seemed familiar to me, then again, I read so much so probably I read something about him but didn’t entirely remember what and why. So I was so eager to read this book when I spotted it on Netgalley. Plus, the other reason was that this is a Little People Big Dreams book and I just ADORE that series!

In this book we learn all about Tenzing Norgay, who was apparently a very famous sherpa and even stood on the top of Mount Everest (or Chomolungma for Tibetans) with Edmund Hillary as the first two people! But back to how it all started! We meet Tenzing when he was just a little kid, a kid with BIG dreams. Because he wants to become a sherpa. He wants to help people go up Chomolungma! And we see how hard he works for that dream and how despite everything he never gives up, because yeah, there are some disappointments. That is a kid with BIG dreams right there. I loved seeing him become a sherpa, I loved the photographs (well, illustrated photographs) of his journeys and I just love how it ended with him on top of the mountain. Smiling his trademark (I would call it that) smile. See what happens next for him!

Funnily, on ADE the timeline is broken, but when reading through the Netgalley app, the timeline actually works (and we get some fun extra information). Now I wonder if it always has worked and if I should just use the Netgalley app more, haha.

The art by Bandana Tulachan? I loved them and I think they are my number 1 for the series at this point. The art was so pretty and I loved the art style. So soft, so pretty. I hope that this illustrator makes more art for books, because according to Goodreads this was their first work. Oh, and I love that they are from Nepal, which fits so well, given the book is set in Nepal.

All in all, I learned a lot of new things and I had a lot of fun reading this one! I would highly recommend this one! Another winner for this fantastic children’s series!

I *always* love the people features in “Little People Big Dreams” books, and I especially love that the author writes about people that should get more recognition, and often down.

How many people have heard of Sir Edmund HIllary, famous as being the first to climb Mt. Everest? Except, he wasn’t alone. He had Tenzing Norgay with him, his mountaineering Sherpa. Yes, Capitalization there, because Sherpa does not mean one who is a guid. The Sherpa people live at the base of the Himalayas, and, as the story goes, Tenzing grew up wanting to climb to the top of Everest, which his people called Chomolungma.

This, and other things you will learn by reading the picture book biography of his life. Although he was not well known in English speaking countries, he was celebrated in his homeland. There is a statue of him in Sagarmatha, in the foothills of the Himalayas.

Well told story. Wonderful that these is an easily accessible book about his life.

Thanks to Edelweiss for making this book available for an honest review. This book will be published the 6th of February 2024.

You’ll want to get your hands on this one; not only is the story inspiring, but the illustrations are spectacular.

This book is about a little boy with an adventurous heart. He was one of 13 children and learned early in life that joy comes from helping others. He also learned about determination and goal setting. He had a big dream and failed many, many times, but he always tried again. His attitude and tenacity are inspiring.

On May 29, 1953, Tenzing Norgay went up the mountain as he had done before, but this time, he came down a hero. He had summited the world’s highest point, earning him the nickname ‘Tiger of the Snows.’

This book will be a springboard to teaching children about the Sherpa people and the value of childhood dreams, tenacity, attitude, and a smile. They’ll read about the different names of the world’s highest mountain and about the momentous moment in history for all climbers.

Attitude is everything. It’s also contagious. Give children an opportunity to ‘catch’ this enthusiasm and determination.

I was gifted this book by Quarto Publishing Group, Frances Lincoln Children’s Books and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

A solid biography of an adventurous person who was determined to reach their dreams. I remain extremely impressed that this series continues to be so diligent in matching the background of its illustrators with its subjects.

The Little People, Big Dreams series has been hit-or-miss for me, and this is one of the really good installments! The story is informative and inspiring, and the illustrations are beautiful.

"Tenzing Norgay" by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara with illustrations by Bandana Tulachan is another biography for young readers in the Little People, Big Dreams series.

Tenzing Norgay grew up near the Himalayas and daydreamed about climbing to the top while tending his family's yaks. He grew up and learned how to be a Sherpa and help other climbers. He was 39 when he became one of the first two people to finally reach the summit of Chomolungma, the mountain we know as Everest.

This is a great introduction to this brave man who pursued and reached his dream. The illustrations are vibrant and this is another great entry in this series.

I loved this wonderful picture book about the life of Tenzing Norgay, the Nepalese Sherpa who reached the summit of Everest with Sir Edmund Hilary in 1953.  I enjoyed the beautiful illustrations that accompanied his story and I loved learning about him, as when I was growing up I only ever heard Sir Edmund Hilary’s name connected with Mount Everest, but never Tensing Norgay. It think it’s wonderful that he’s finally getting the recognition that he so rightly deserves and so of course I highly recommend this book! Thanks so much to NetGalley and Frances Lincoln Children’s Books for my digital copy via the NetGalley app.
