The art style of this manga is astoundingly haunting. The atmosphere buries into your bones and as you slowly digest every part of this volume you become familiar with the creeping mundanity of life that is not so normal, and ever so eery. I must admit I am kind of in love with this.

let's ignore the fact that I was meant to have read this long before the anime adaptation (which I haven't seen yet) started airing, but oh well, I'm here now. I'll be completely honest, I was pretty apprehensive going into this because of the fact that this starts in media res without any sort of buildup (something that could be done really well or really poorly, depending on the media), but my goodness was this spectacular. the art is gorgeous and the mangaka's use of symbolism and onomatopoeia has me gnawing at the bars of my enclosure. I was hooked from start to finish - so much so that I read this in one sitting, which isn't abnormal for me when it comes to manga, but still. I'm deeply terrified for how the rest of this is going to unfold, but also... I can't wait.
