I was hesitant to read this story because of other reviews I read, however it turned up at my local library one day and I thought "eh, why not?". However, I am glad that I read it.
I think we need to be realistic when going in to a book, there's a lot of hype surrounding this book which gets our hopes up for something amazing and then people get disappointed when the story is just good or nice. But it was a good story and I enjoyed the ending. I didn't cry but I did have tears in my eyes, especially during Rachel's chapter!

To address some of the criticisms I've seen that made me worry about reading it:
Tate has no character - because this story is told mostly from Tate's perspective, especially in the beginning, it seems like she is the main character. However, I think Miles is the main character and Tate is the person who just helps move that along. What's wrong with a character not having much backstory because she came from a normal loving family?

There are too many "rude" scenes - this is true, there are quite a lot and one of them went on for ages. The story is still good though.

Mile is an ass - he had a truly heartbreaking past. Give the man some credit, he was broken. It takes time to heal and remember. Hurt people, hurt people. I'm not justifying his behaviour, just saying he deserves forgiveness.

Good points being:
- I really enjoyed learning about Miles' past and seeing him overcome the fear he was living with and the torture he was putting himself through. Overall, this was a lovely story and I'm glad there was a happy ending.

So much of the book was about Rachel yet the turning point where Miles goes and sees her is so anticlimactic. It happens and they cry for a few seconds and suddenly he's fine. And next thing you know him and Tate are good and married and have a whole entire child in the matter of one short chapter because the book needs to end. Tate and Miles relationship was so undeniably toxic. It amazes me that it's romanticized in any way at all. I hate it when female characters are written so one dimensional. As if we can only be attracted to a guy and can't help ourselves when they just want to used us for sex. That is not okay??? Their relationship was not okay, but because their story ended with a bow on it, we are supposed to accept it without even considering the manipulation, the red flags, and believe 100% in the 180 change of the main male character? No ways. Characters are so elementary. Also what guy falls in love with a girl that fast and deep and repeated the girl's name a million times in their head. That relationship seemed to have started with lust too. The thing is the whole thing revolved around the discovery of Mile's past too much. Every other chapter was about Rachel so when it got to the parts with Tate, his love wasn't even remotely palpable. It is so unbelievable. Last thing even though there's more to say- where are the therapists in this book. Like they all need help. Every single character. Except for maybe Ian. It's a shame he is not a more developed character in the story. I think I liked his unproblematic self the best out of them all, next to Cap.

Not my favorite Colleen Hoover book but it was still decent. It was a fun read at first but as you think a little more the more you realize it wasn’t as great as you think. I just feel like the character traits and growth was inconsistent and that really messed with the plot. For example, (no spoilers don’t worry) Miles, one of the main characters used grief and panic as an excuse for many many things that shouldn’t have an excuse. Grief is very prominent in this book but other characters simply forgave and moved on. It was never addressed as how badly certain actions hurt others or how people and actions/things needed to change. And this book would have been liked more if that had changed. Other than that I like the two main characters relationship towards the end. But in the beginning again, their relationship felt uncomfortable. Like somehow manipulation or gaslighting was involved, even though it was never directly stated or somewhat brought up. Maybe it was just me that felt uncomfortable by parts of their relationship, but I didn’t like many parts of it which made my liking for the book go down. It wasn’t a horrible book, just don’t one of my favorites.
