I came across this book at the library and on a whimsy borrowed it to read as I have NEVER read a Nancy Drew mystery. As a kid I despised the cotton candy idea of Nancy Drew, because I thought 'phffff, boring!'

This version is the exploding orange version; it's been fun reading about NASA back in the day. Preliminary star-rating: 2.

This was fun to re-read for nostalgia purposes, but it was unintentionally laughable at many points. I haven’t read the original 1941 version, but as this revised version was centered around a moon launch, I imagine they’re quite different. There are two mysteries going on at once, and they feel pretty disjointed. There is a lot of action, but no one thing is ever dwelt on for long enjoy to get a satisfactory conclusion. It was a fun book, but I could take it or leave it

not that good of a mystery
...very much a product of it's time
it only gets 3 stars bc Nancy survives a plane crash

July 15, 2022-finished the 1971 version of this story which is a complete rewrite from the original 1940's version. 1971 version is good. I didn't love the story, but it was interesting. 3 stars for that version.

August 2, 2022 reading the original version. I enjoyed this storyline better than the 1971 version. The mystery held my attention better and was just more compelling to me. I give this storyline 4 stars.

I will put my overall rating for Goodreads at 4 stars. I think I likely read this one as a teenager as I read a ton of Nancy Drew back then but I have no concrete recollection of this particular storyline-either version from before reading it in 2022.

I feel like Nancy Drew books are what everyone has a few in their homes but not many have read them, or that may just be me. When I started reading this one I did not understand how explosive oranges at NASA related to a mansion that had a bunch of wild animals at it.
This story was a ride that I was not expecting. This was like riding the tower of terror with how many things kept happening to this group. It was a little annoying that nothing made sense or seemed to really go together till the very last few pages. I enjoyed reading it but it wasn’t anything extraordinary. It reminded me of a scooby doo episode and I can see this being a fun episode or movie but in book form it just falls flat for me.
I gave it three stars because yes I enjoyed it and laughed at various points but I don’t think I am going to remember much of this book after awhile. (Except for the exploding oranges at NASA because who could forget that)
