Incredible. Her proposition that the USA operates under a caste system makes so much sense. The parallels between structures and systems here and in India and Nazi Germany became abundantly clear to me as soon as I listened to her rationale. Stop everything you’re doing and read/listen/consume this book. Especially if you’re white.

Powerful and deeply disturbing to face the atrocities enacted by the American caste system.

This book should be required reading for every high school student. Maybe the next generation can be the one to abolish the American caste system.

This was a great, informative audiobook. All of Isabel's stories continued to paint the picture of race in America and also make comparisons between the caste system between here and in Germany. After the war ended, Nazi's were not memorialized or praised for their sacrifices but the oppressed were given monuments and museums to honor their suffering. How different America would be if the confederates were punished rather than allowed into society to uphold their white supremacist views in positions such as judges, politicians, officers, etc. This was quite a long read but worth it.

Critical reading for anyone who wants to understand why some insecure white people, and those that align themselves with them, are pushing further and further to the right.

This should be made required reading at an upper high school level or as part of the general ed college curriculum. For anyone who has thought or been tempted to say "this isn't America" during all of the recent events, I urge you to read this book. Among other things, it's an honest and painful look at our history, and how we got to where we are today. Certainly not a light read, but an incredibly important one.
