I am not sure what to think of this book. The first book was too long but this book was too short! It seemed more romance than fantasy to be honest. I wanted more world building, more classes, more action but I only remember a few classes, only 1 sparring time, way too much bullying happening, a few steamy scenes. Everything seemed to fall flat. Medra doesn't talk to people much not even Orcades. There was also more POV chapters from Blake and even Florence so that was strange. I hope the 3rd book will be a tad longer and have more to do with friends.

I think I liked the first book more than this one, but that doesn't mean I'm not looking forward to the 3rd. I just think there were some unnecessary chapters that had me rushing them. I'm curious to know what will become of her mom and when Blake will decide to tell her about what he can become đź‘€

Screaming! Okay, took a little more to get into this book but I loved the ending. I wish we got a little more from Blake but I think that’ll come in the next book. Still a good and easy read.

I think I was expecting too much out of this book. I’m not saying it was bad, but all the different elements at play seemed like too much, and became what seemed a little contradictory at times. Which I understand that conflict needs to be built, but some instances were agitating that the characters seemed to avoid the obvious too easy way to problem solve, maybe to add to the story, but I feel like in some cases it was just a detriment.
The ending had several threads just left hanging, not just a cliffhanger, but an entirely threadbare ending.
Still gonna read the third, but I really hope the conflicts become more challenging and not so trying.

Right, so we’re back where we started. Medra and Blake are enemies again. Because of course they are. And what’s his big game plan now? Bully her into obedience. Groundbreaking. Love that for her. Nothing screams “healthy romance” like power plays and emotional whiplash.

Oh, and surprise! There’s ANOTHER love triangle brewing. Medra, Blake, and now… Kage. Who, unlike Blake, isn’t a controlling jerk. He’s actually kind of decent, which is honestly shocking in this book. Normally I hate love triangles with the fire of a thousand suns—but honestly? Team Kage. I said it. I meant it. I stand by it. (Until of course the ending)

Meanwhile, Medra is still stuck at the magical prison.. sorry, school..miserable and surrounded by people who suck. And you’re telling me she has a whole damn dragon but won’t just… fly off into the sunset and live her feral girl dream in a cave somewhere? Girl, be serious.

Let’s talk about Medra. I hate her. No, really. I hate her. She’s immature, irrational, and makes the dumbest decisions imaginable. Every time she opened her mouth I wanted to throw the book across the room. If this is our heroine, I’m rooting for the dragon to eat her and call it a day.

Blake, on the other hand, is somehow even more annoying. He’s a scale growing, gaslighting weirdo who I loathed for 400 pages straight and then, for one traitorous page, I liked him again. Just one. Then he pulled his usual betrayal nonsense, and I was right back to rage reading.

Plot wise? What plot? It’s just vibes and bad decisions. Blake drinks Medra’s blood and suddenly he’s a dragon now? Kage can turn into a wolf? The professor’s evil? Dragons are waking up? Honestly, at this point, the only thing burning is my patience.

And then we hit the cliffhanger ending. Blake’s down an eye, everyone’s betrayed everyone, and the dragon’s still kicking. Do I care? No. Will I read the next one? Also no

I've forgotten everything about this book but my GR rating indicates I liked it better than the first.

YES, YES, YES! This series is absolutely filling the void the Empyrean series left in my heart—LOL. I'm seriously loving the FMC. She's strong, selfless, confident, and a total warrior baddie.

The ending was wild, and now I’m counting down the days until Book 3 drops in March 2026.

The MMC really surprised me in a good way this time. At the end of On Wings of Blood, I felt pretty apprehensive about him, but in The Bond That Burns, his character showed some genuinely pleasant growth.

Spoiler Also, I LOVED the moment when Medra discovers she’s been betrayed—again—by Blake in the dragon courtyard. Even then, she doesn’t immediately turn on him. Instead, she stands by him, which I found incredibly powerful. I really appreciated the state their relationship was left in after all the chaos in the last 5–10% of the book.

I’m beyond excited for the next installment. If you’re wondering whether to start this series—YES, you absolutely should!
