My review is this - just read it because it's crazy fun (in a dark mafia let's kill people kind of way)
It's madness and crazy and will leave you saying 'omg what is happening' more than once. But it's brilliant and funny in a sarcastic dark kind of way, and hot as hell.
It will definitely leave your moral compass fluttering way passed morally gray into 'girl are you doing okay'
I sat down to write the review of Lords of the Darkness but I decided that this really only works as a review for both parts of this duet set because it stops on a huge cliffhanger and reads as one continuous book…..a book of 650 pages that I read within 24 hours because as crazy wild as this book is it had me absolutely hooked and savage for it from literally the first word.
I mean where do I start - the lords of darkness are a criminal organisation who keep the world's criminals and underworld in order. It's been run by the same five English families for the last 1000 years and the current Lords Alaric, Theo, Sterling and Gideon very much give off a 4 horsemen of the apocalypse vibe.
18 year Harlow is the secret daughter of Lord Blackwell, who is introduced into their world after her father's death and made to join the Lords against her will…. And oh yeah it's the 4 other lords that killed him.
The 4 lords are out to indoctrinate Harlow as the Lady of Darkness in the most brutal fashion and she is out to do whatever it takes to escape them and get back to her life in New York.
I'm pretty sure there isn't a trigger that this story doesn't hit …it's brutal and graphic and the height of Morally Grey. It's utter madness but I absolutely loved it all.
It also has one of the best lines I've ever read in a book - 'Oh, so he's a psychopathic killer. Cool beans.' That is a killer line and made me laugh so much.

The good: not insta-lovey (maybe a bit insta lusty though), well written in general, well paced, kept me interested
The so so: it was difficult to differentiate each male character (they inevitably sounded the same to me), a bit heavy on the exposition, one dimensional characters, sometimes focused too much on ordinary/irrelevant details (like dressing and eating in the morning or describing the workers as if they played any part in the story when they were never discussed again)…

I conquered my worst fear against my will. I conquered my worst fear because of them.
When Harlows dad suddenly passes, she is tossed into this underground world where The Lords of Darkness have fought against the crimes of England for decades. The Lords are a group of 5 people from 5 different prominant house in England. Harlow bravely takes her younger brothers spot to save him from this life of crime and murder. Unable to let go of her old life Harlow fights against the other 4 Lords and even plans their death.....unsuccessfully.

I found this duo to be highly unorganized and frankly boring. In the first part of book one there is a section describing the Lords, it was very confusing because she was talking about 3 but there are 4 Lords. Throughout the books the Lords personalities were not differeniated alot making it hard to seperate them or even to get emotionally attached to the character.
Harlow is a girl who severe panic attacks and mental disorders...to the point of taking heavy medication daily to cope. There are parts of the books where she has strong baddass killer moments but we dont actually see growth or her over coming these panic issues at the end of the 2nd book she talks about how she is still taking medication daily. I understand in real life people dont outgrow mental disorders but typcially in books there is character growth where we see them overcome previous trauma and heal.
The spice scenes in this were so so. One of the guys in the harem was portrayed as a big Dom and how other women did not sub well yet the Dom/Sub relationship went no where between him and Harlow. There is a tampon/period scene that was just gross. The word "sprayed" was use excessively in reference to female ejaculation.
I hated the ending. These guys spoke over and over about how long the Lords of Darkness have been around and yet decide to end it for a female. Gag.
