Married single mother is so overcome by motherhood she turns into a dog.
This was an interesting plot, which I liked more than I thought I would.
Reading about her killing the cat did make me feel weird, but that was probably the goal of the author, as it shows just how deep Nightbitch is.

The only reason I gave this a 4.5 instead of 5 is because it was a little slow at the beginning. Overall this book did a fantastic job of creatively capturing the complexity of motherhood and the emotional gymnastics that come with it. This is an ode to the magic of becoming a mother along with the loneliness, guilt, and grief that seem to be mutually exclusive with being a mom.
