A friend gifted this collection of poems to me for my birthday. I was pleasantly surprised by the fantastic nature of Falley’s poems. Several people have referred to the word “gut-punch” when discussing her work. While this is true, it should be noted that this is not a negative interpretation. Rather, these poems are heavily realistic – realistic about the social issues women face, about love and loss, about family and nostalgia, about surviving. While there were a few poems that did fall flat or paled in comparison to the star pieces of this collection, it’s clear Falley is talented and growing poet. I can’t wait to read future collections from her.

Poems from this collection that I recommend: “Family,” “Fat Girl,” “The Pink Ribbon Parade,” the combination of “The First Time I Met His Mother, Christmas Eve” and “The Last Time I Met His Mother, Valentine’s Day,” and “Irrational Anthem.”

More than once, I felt like I had been punched in the gut by some of these poems. Absolutely stunning.

Another great work by Megan Falley. After reading these poems I’m just thankful to exist in the same space that they do. Love.

5 stars - I flew through this book. I absolutely love Megan Falley's poetry and am so excited for her forthcoming collection, so I had to go back and read some of her older work
