“I like a bit of dick now, but I didn’t grow a fucking vagina.”
-Deacon

Being the child that always felt unwanted, or as clout, is never something anyone should have to live through. Poor Deacon. No wonder he struggled so much with his feeling towards Julian.

When it comes to the boy next door, Julian had no one. Parents were gone, foster family was gone, and no one wanted to claim him. Julian found a home with Rhett and his family. Then on day Rhett was gone too.

How these two came together finding something more than just a trauma bond was beautiful. A story of how the little things add up to something real and honest.

Side note: This was an Audible listen. My headphones died at the park while the kids were playing so the KU version was downloaded to my phone. The KU version does not have chapter 30 like the Audible version does. You do what you want with that information.

Omg I’m so in love with Deacon it’s not even funny.

This book was so good. I cried, I laughed out loud, I got angry, I cried again, I fell in love… so many feelings.

Many thanks to Tantor Audio for sending me an audio copy in exchange for an honest review

I don't remember requesting this. I mean I obviously did but I don't remember it. Anywho, this was, like most smaller romance novels, a bit of an impulse read. The bookish equivalent of eating french fries from McDonald's.

Now, I do want to note that I was reading this on a day when my OCD was especially bad so that likely had an effect on how I took in this book.

I loved the theme of grief and losing a close friend/family member. Honestly, I don't feel I can comment on how well (or not) it was done because I was anxious/not paying complete attention.

Overall, this book was short and pretty sweet. Definitely check it out if you get a chance.

Loved the narration of the book. The book started off strong but somewhere along the way it just felt like they just fell in love too fast with the history they had. At times the dialogue just felt odd.

I haven’t been in the mood to write long reviews unless the book gives me a reason to rant so this will be shorter than usual. I liked this book and absolutely adored Deacon and Julian but I had some issues with it that made me unable to rate it 5 stars. While I tried to have no expectations, this is one of those beloved MM romances that people rave about and from what I heard I just thought I’d feel more than I did. This has an angsty tone because of the subject matter but besides loving the couple, I didn’t feel much sadness until the second to last chapter. That chapter had me crying my eyes out, all 2 minutes and 9 seconds of it

Hmmmm… I would say this is really like 3.75 buuuut I’m rounding up. Overall I really enjoyed it, the only reason it’s not a full 4 stars is bc of me. I’m in a high angst, slow burn kinda mood —-which this book totally meet the criteria— but at the 60% mark they were basically together and I could have stood for it to be stretched out a bit longer.

I am not sure I have read the same novel as other reviewers. I did not see heartbreak, no drama, nor instalove. It was just another lovestory, drama provided by family, and lacking the compulsory trouble in paradise.
All the characters were wonderfull and I loved reading this book, but I like to feel some emotion while reading.
