Dante's Divine Comedy has started at me from my tbr for over a decade. And then it took two years to read through. A giant fanfic with beautiful imagery, combining classic mythology and Catholic theology to essentially give himself glory, Dante placed the people he hated in hell and people he admired in heaven. It was fascinating to read about the science at the time and about people who hadn't become official saints in the Church but were clearly recognized as such in his time. Beautiful translation.
