5* for Gray and 3* to Dante!
This was an epic and brave quest that Gray began, but it ended too soon and what was posthumously printed was not the masterpiece Gray had dreamt.
The polymath, Gray, hoped to both translate and illustrate Dante's famous poem and what a work that would have been. Still he has given us the words, keeping the canti and using Scots vernacular beautifully. As the English language doesn't lend itself to rhyme in the way Italian does, Gray has not forced it and the rhythm feels perfect (I have not read the original). I only wish that there had been time for his inimitable art to grace these pages.
As for the Trilogy itself, Hell is by far the strongest and the best work. Perhaps, as an atheist, I should not judge but I found the books weaker as they progressed. While I continued to admire the writing, I was less enamoured with the content by the time I reached Paradise.

Très bon livre même si j’ai pas compris grand chose. Si j’étais né 500 ans plus tôt j’aurais sûrement mieux compris. La beauté de l’écriture suffit pour apprécier cette œuvre.
