This was a spicy romance novel. Not my cup of tea. Found the characters, and plot, shallow and contrite.

shocked at how good this was. I will proceed to read the other two Emily Henry books.
I didn’t love this one. I felt a lot of the dialogue was very forced and some of the choices were not for me (an unfurnished west michigan basement for a hookup??? there are definitely wolf spiders?!?).
I loved the side characters the most. I found them very endearing and realistic. Maggie/Pete and Shadi really were some of the standouts for me personally. Out of the main characters, I did prefer Gus and his storyline. I found him interesting and wanted to root for his success. I did like the premise too!

Emily Henry has a knack for getting your attention right from the first page. She draws you and you find out facts about the characters organically. The books is engrossing. I read it in one sitting. January is a charming, likable FMC who I found to be quite relatable. She’s a romantic and an optimistic who’s been knocked off her pedestal. Gus is such a wonderful MMC. He’s flawed and on first look her opposite. The banter was great. There’s moments that had me giggling and moments where you feel their grief and trauma like it’s your own. Phenomenal book.

Fun little airplane read! (This is a bit of a trend for me and Emily Henry books, it seems)
Every EH book I’ve read seems to follow a (very successful) formula: bookish fmc meets bad boy that she has some kind of history with, who is actually soft and sweet inside. Misunderstandings abound, chaos ensues, female main character learns more about herself and gets the guy.
But - I also ready every Nancy drew book ever as a kid and that was formula plot city, so hey — if it works it works.
This one was cute, I cried a bit at the end bc I’m an easy crier and a huge sucker for tearjerky family stuff (is this a topic for my therapist? Probably. Am I over sharing on goodreads bc it’s 5am and the jet lag is strong? Also probably).
In my personal rankings, would say this is much better than Funny Story (which I actively thought was bad) and not as good as Book Lovers (my first EmHen). Would recommend as an actual beach read - this stuff is like potato chips for your brain
