My series review can be found here at my YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/dSjY3MgVTaY (released 4./11/21)

I read the first of this series and didn't gel with it, then my review listeners suggested I give it another try, and into this book, oh yes that worked! I am not fully entrenched in the psy-changeling world and yet another series to keep in my head all the nuances etc., The fact there's lots of different 'shifters' in this series is brilliant, rats, bears, wolves and jaguars and leopards and lynx! Most definitely a world that anybody would love to get involved in. Not as good as Singh's Archangel series, but most definitely worth your time.

wasnt a huge fan of how they interacted based on their back story. felt like it wasnt sensitive enough to the trauma they both had and was kind of toxic.

Series is still very good. I will definitely be continuing. I’m interested in everything going down with like the council and everything.

However.

This was not the couple for me. I got the ick several times. Particularly because they met when he was nine and she was three. That is a wild age gap for children. They “lost touch” so to say when he was 14 and she was 8. I just found some of it to be yucky. I understand that their friendship wasn’t inappropriate, it’s actually more of when adult Clay references how stubborn “his Tally” still is. Like bro she was barely formed when you knew her, but I digress.

Then there is the whole weirdness of Clay being hung up on how many people she’s been with. He even points out that it shouldn’t bother him, and that other women in his pack are sexual and he doesn’t judge them but he’s got this whole yuck “you’ve always been mine” kinda thing going on

Also. I just don’t really like Tally as a character. I think I would be more receptive to these two being together if I didn’t actively dislike Tally. She is better during the last like 20% of the book, but still not my favorite.

I didn’t really enjoy the chemistry between the two of them. I don’t know. This couple was by far my least favorite so far. But I’m interested in some of the world plot developments that are happening so onto the next book

Okay I change my mind I do like Clay and Tally after all.
Still not over him adding voice activation for Tally almost instantly + love love the little banter she has with Dorian ( and the sneak peek for Ashaya and Dorian!! I see you 🫣)

I really didn’t like how this book dealt with trauma. I like a controlling alpha MMC in a lot of romance settings, but pairing that archetype with a FMC who is still processing child abuse just made me feel uncomfortable. 😕

TBH I was mainly reading for the overarching plot (what is going on with the Psy Council???) and for future main character’s backstories.

Talin & Clay
This one was super interesting and loved that a human MC was finally brought into the series! I loved the storyline. I feel like it was a good direction for the series.
This was also another heavy one with the backstory of child SA and abuse, but I was very grateful it wasn’t talked about in detail. If it would have been I probably wouldn’t have given it 4 stars, just because I can’t handle that and it would have ruined it for me.
