Initially I found this book pretty slow and hard to get into but I’m so glad I didn’t give up. Loved reading this book, the ending particularly had me so encapsulated.

DID NOT FINISH

Not really charming or that interesting to me, maybe good for someone else

On the first page, I had no idea what I was reading...by the last page, I was completely blown away. This book is beautifully written and it takes you on an intense and emotional journey. I may have to go through this book again; there was so much to think about.

Excellent! Boy can this boy write words!

"Your end is a dead blue wren" gives a 'heads up' to this astonishing original novel.

Underbelly of BrisVegas Australian crime and struggle-town 'to kill a mocking bird' coming of age, all rolled up with 1980s Queensland maroon ribbons and references.

Imperfect lives wrapped in perfect pointed urban prose, propelled by a compelling, humorous and heart-wrenching story.

There's a lot of Eli Bell in Trent Dalton, the journo who writes in technicolour but really can turn his hand to crime fiction too.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say, this needs to nominated for The Booker, The Miles Franklin, The PM and Premier Awards and finally to light up on the screen. I just adored it!

With them the seed of Wisdom did I sow,
And with mine own hand wrought to make it grow;
And this was all the Harvest that I reap'd —
"I came like Water, and like Wind I go".

This book was quite good. It was very out of my comfort zone and I have no regrets. I will be going to see Trent Dalton at a writer's festival next month so I thought it would be best to read his books before I go. I think I felt almost every emotion I could whilst reading this book, admiration, disgust, concern, fear, sadness, and hopefulness. And on the last page just wow, I actually just put my head on the book and just sat there for a bit thinking about the book, it was not where I thought it would go, but I'm so glad it went there.

Absolutely incredible, without an inch of a doubt this is the best book I’ve read all year... quite possibly ever! Couldn’t put this book down.

Loved it, so many laugh out loud moments.
