like 7/5 stars. cried. want to tell about this book forever. and incredible journey of trauma and the light that shines within all the bad times. changing cycles. fuck. so so so beautiful.

Boy Swallows Universe has so much going on - it's got crime, trauma, selective mutism, prison, drug-dealing, gang wars and love. It's chaotic and poetic at the same time. There's dry humour and teenage back chat, and at its very heart it’s a coming of age novel tackling the thin line between being a good or bad person. It even uses some real characters from Queensland's 40s' crime scene.

The style of writing and the way you have to read the book reminded me a lot of "I'll Give you the Sun" which was possibly the best book I read last year. I loved Boy Swallows Universe - great story, excellently executed!

“It’s about the ups and downs of life. The downside is life is short and has to end. The upside is it comes with bread, wine and books.”

Fantastic novel full of well realised characters and beautiful language. The only odd part was the one random chapter where it turned into a David Cronenberg movie for a little bit.

EPIC BUT I GOTTA RE READ THIS SHIT!!! GREAT CHARACTER AND DIALOGUE. i fortunately forgot this was set in Australia
