I kinda want to give this 3.5 stars. It was an enjoyable book. Not a lot of plot to it, just a series of adventures. "The sword in the stone" didn't even enter the picture until the very very very end of the book, essentially as another adventure. But, that doesn't mean it wasn't a fun light right.

I really enjoyed this book as a young teenager. I read it a few times, and I loved T.H. White's writing style. The Disney adaptation is good, but the book is better. I would think this would be a great book to read together as a family, though some of the concepts might take a little explaining. For adults, you should go ahead and read the whole collection of T.H. White's stories about Arthur in The Once and Future King.

Lighthearted romp through the tale of a young Arthur, his tutor Merlin and the lessons he leaned from being morphed into different animals and meeting Robin Hood. Wanted to read some Arthurian legends, and this was a fun way to start.

This was the best thing I've read all year. I didn't want to put it down.
It was fun the way Tom Sawyer was fun - like going on an adventure. But even better, thanks to Merlyn and all the lovely Old English flair, what! If that wasn't cool enough, though, there were lovely little references to "modern" things that popped up here and there, thanks to Merlyn's backwardness in time.

So many, many things to love.
King Pellinor's confuzzled relationship with the Beast Glatisant.
Merlyn's... I dunno. I just love everything about Merlin. He made me laugh out loud numerous times. I love a book that makes me laugh out loud.
The Wart- so eager to learn and eager to please!
Sir Ector's bumbling, flustered, kindhearted ways.

And to top it all off, you finish the last paragraph find yourself facing
-The Beginning-

You know what?
The whole time I was reading this book, I was thinking "hm. Some of this must have been in the beginning of "The Once and Future King" ... because I know I haven't read this, but it all is so familiar.

I just found out (I am so... blonde) that The Once and Future King is a collection of 4 books altogether, the Sword in the Stone being the first of those 4. So, yes, I had read it before.

Well, I guess that just means I can now put this in my "reread and loved" list on goodreads.

All right, we've got magic. We've got Merlin who has been to the future!
We have also journeys as a wide variety of animals as well as the view from when the entire cosmos was created!

What's not to love?

The way T.H. White wrote this has maybe made it the most charmingly written book I've ever had the pleasure to read.

I read the adult version of this book which apparently has been sucked into The Once and Future King. Much of the story was enchanting, but like most books of its age, I felt it had the tendency to be a little long winded.

NOT what I was expecting from an Arthur retelling (references to twentieth century normal things to us as READERS but not them as CHARACTERS) quite fun. Laughed out loud a few times. Shoutout to the hunter guy for « yearning for puss » haha aernt we all
