I had never heard of these books before, but apparently there are a lot of them! There are pictures on every page which are great for the young ones. My oldest child (age 7) really liked it, but my younger two didn't care much. My oldest wants to read book two, but if he hadn't requested I would not have gone on with this series.

Cute story. It is light and sweet. Kind of told I'm a Little Women, Secret Garden or Anne of Green Gables.

A sweet story about friendship and reaching out to others. Very cozy and friendly. Sophie doesn't want to hang out with her little brother, but is kind to him anyway. Girl friends playing together. Sophie has heard bad things about snakes, so she's nervous about her new classmate, but sees that he is lonely and learns that you have to get to know someone before believing what you hear about groups. Happy family, working parents, pleasant friendships, kids in nature, tasty food.

I want to love this sweet story about a mouse who makes reluctant friends with a snake. However on the first few pages, it shows the mouse main character being unwilling to spend time with a younger sibling, fostering sibling dislike for absolutely no reason.

Sophie Mouse is excited for winter to end and to get back to school with her best friend Hattie Frog. She loves both the freedom of playing in the meadow and the fun of school. There is a new student at school, though, Owen Snake. The children of the meadow have heard bad things about snakes and they aren't sure that they want to be friends with Owen. This sweet friendship story is perfect for young readers venturing into chapter books. Recommended for grades K-2.
