I just realized I’ve already watched the documentary on this story and the book was kind of boring tbh.
This was the craziest, most tangled story I've ever heard of! As Silas said, "I'm glad you got to experience Game of Thrones." This is soap opera level drama, for sure. Just unfortunate that it's a true story.

The story is so wild that it deserved a better storyteller. That the author devoted so much space to describe simple things that could have been footnotes and not bore the audience (like we didn’t need an in-depth explanation of Facebook). There were some others but that was the most annoying.
I watched the documentary "Lover, Stalker, Killer" on Netflix and when I googled Liz Golyar, I came across this book so I immediately borrowed it from the library. I made it to the end of chapter 1.
The writing was too simplistic for my taste, and some of the stuff in there didn't add anything other than "omg check this out!1!1!!" Like the bit about some rando on the internet bitching about the dude she met on a dating website not being single. I get the author was trying to make a point about how difficult it would be for these dating websites to vet people, but she could've just left out the bad review and stated "it would be a helluva lot of work and practically impossible." No need to regurgitate Yelp reviews to make a point.
Then she started fawning over Dave. Gross. Just gross. And that's as far as I made it.

This is a true story of a woman obsessed with Dave Kruppa and the web of lies she has built to try to keep him to herself. Cari Farver was looking for a no strings attached relationship and she found that with Dave. Shanna has other ideas as she was seeing him first and didn’t want to share.
The level of detail and research Leslie Rule did for this book is astounding!
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was really looking forward to reading this book when I saw it was by Leslie Rule, Ann Rule's daughter. I wasn't disappointed it was a decent novel. I liked her writing style but at times I found parts dragged on.
This book has it all, murder, mystery, stalking, identity theft, cat-phishing and more! The story itself is absolutely terrifying as it can honestly happen to anyone. We are all constantly on social media, on the internet it is one of our main staples in our lives.
As the reader you do get very frustrated sometimes as to how the men in the book are literally so naïve but as the author notes they were masterfully manipulated by a pretty face and it was easy to see from the outside looking in, but not so much when you're neck deep in it. Shanna "Liz" Golyar is a very sick woman and the horrors she inflicted on the people she encountered is truly tragic.
I found the book to be descriptive and as previously mentioned, dragged on in spots but then the book ended so abruptly I felt as the reader we missed out at the end.
For her first true crime novel I think Ms. Rule did a good job and I look forward to reading more of this genre from her.
