Cari Farver vanishes in November of 2012. What follows is years of twisted games and stalking for Dave Kroupa, Cari’s short time companion, and years of pain and heart ache for Nancy Raney, Cari’s mother. Liz Golyar is also antagonized by Cari after she goes missing. The stalking and death threats will continue until three investigators solve the complicated case.
Wow. This case is absolutely wild. There were so many things that I found truly unbelievable. I don’t want to spoil anything, but if you are a true crime lover this case has so many interesting aspects. It gets intense.
I really enjoyed Leslie Rule’s writing style. Straight forward and to the point, Rule delivers this twisting story with journalistic style. I did find that at times the story went into too much detail. Going into the background of individuals is important to understand their actions. However, I felt this book delved too far into topics that weren’t relative to the case.
I would recommend this book to true crime lovers. Especially, if you want to know ALL the facts.

Wow! I was so excited to get my hands on this book after watching two different television episodes on this case. Leslie Rule did an amazing job showing just how complicated the web of lies and manipulation went. I loved the history she provided us with and every detail she went into from start to finish. I really hope that she decides to write another true crime book!

In the tradition of her acclaimed mother, Ann Rule, author of The Stranger Beside Me, bestselling author Leslie Rule delivers a riveting true story for our time--as she exposes the years-long trail of a sadistic sociopath, identity thief, and killer at the dark heart of a real-life fatal attraction . . .

NOTE: My rating is based on both the mind blowing aspects of the case (5 STARS!) as well as my enjoyment of Rule's writing style (3.5 stars).
It's stories like A TANGLED WEB that convince me that life truly IS stranger than fiction! This book is a wild ride and I kept on having to put it down and come to terms with the fact that I was reading TRUE crime. Seriously, the story is that bizarre.
Rule eloquently lays out the events of this incredible case, detailing the background and history of all those involved. Although this was necessary for the reader to completely understand the story, it did get to the point where the information was a bit overwhelming! There were also several times I needed to go back and re-read paragraphs because the narrative jumped around quite a bit and left me confused. However, I could tell that Rule was deeply dedicated to the case and it was obvious she left no stone unturned in the writing of this book.
Highly recommended for fans of true crime, jaw dropping stories and anyone who enjoyed her mother's books.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and author for my ARC - you can read this one for yourself on April 28th!

Wow! This is by far one of the best written true crime books that I have ever read! I have read some true crime books that felt like I was reading a documentary instead of a story. Leslie wrote A Tangled Web so well that it didn't feel like a big confusing mess of sharing the lives of everyone that was affected in the disappearance of Cari Farver. The title does not disappoint because this story is definitely a tangled web of how everyone's lives are intertwine. Once you feel like this story can not get any more sick and twisted I promise that it will a few times before it is finally over. I have read a handful of books that I absolutely loved and just wanted to keep reading and this book topped that. I literally could not put the book down and finished in 2 days. I was blown away by the characters in this story as you never really never know someone and something can only be so obvious in a situation unless your eyes are truly opened to the true.
I appreciate Leslie Rule to go out of her way to send autographed book plates to those that won her book for an honest review. She definitely did not have to do that with the pandemic that we are currently in. It just shows how she cares about her readers.
