I'm enjoying these mystery short stories with a touch of romance.

SpoilerBut the motive here was really lame. If she didn't like the portrait, why not just pay the balance and then destroy it herself? She had enough money to do it without a lot of trouble.

This was more cohesive than the first book, though I wish it had been longer as the final 20% felt rushed. But as it were, it was a more satisfying mystery and reveal than the first instalment.

I enjoyed this more as a story about the difficulty of caring for a loved one with Alzheimers in a remote community. The isolation of Widow’s Island was particularly palpable in this book.

I read the first book in the Widow's Island series a few weeks ago and wasn't too impressed. I was unsure whether to even continue on with the series, but when there I found a good deal on the second book I figured I'd give it another chance. Unfortunately, I liked this one even less than the first.

Despite my issues with the first book in the series, there were still some aspects that I liked. I thought the case was interesting, even though the resolution was too quick and unsatisfactory. I also really enjoyed the descriptions of the setting and the atmosphere, and wanted to get to know the main characters.

This book has none of that. The case was entirely uninteresting and even more unsatisfactory than the first, there was no atmosphere at all, and the characters had zero personality. The only thing that gives the book that extra half star is that the main characters from the first book, Cate and Henry, make an appearance, and I still like them.

I had really hoped this series would grow on me, because I am still interested in the overarching mystery of what happened to Tessa and Cate's missing childhood friend, Samantha. That was barely even mentioned in the second book however, and it's not nearly enough to make me want to continue.

Better than the first book but something is missing and I have no idea what it is. Tessa is a bland FMC and not very strong IMO. The crime investigation was better than book one which is why I gave it three stars. The killer was a complete shock to me and her motive was so dumb. So, so, so dumb. I will continue to read the series because I want to know who killed her childhood friend. We were given very little additional information in this book. I want more.

This mystery novella that sets its players up quickly and is solved just as quickly. Although I was conscious of the novel's length, I was surprised by how abruptly the story came to its conclusion. It certainly left me wanting more from the characters of Widow's Island. I look forward to reading more from this author.
