A Bone to Pick

I continue to think these novellas are not as good as they good be. The plot is too complex and nuanced for the length, and as a result, the story is compelling but not as developed as I’d like. I’m still invested enough to keep reading, though!

I liked this book. A quick read with a good paced story. Don't need to read book one but it is also very good.

I give this a four out of five because there's a couple inconsistencies with details. Not horrible or glaring but are there. Worth sharing with friends.

Death in the woods brings Deputy Tessa Black and park ranger Logan Wilde together in search of a killer. The suspects are quirky and varied. I really enjoyed this quick read.

Tessa Black has returned home to the small Widow's Island in order to take care of her ailing mother. She used to be a detective with Seattle PD but now she's on a much smaller island, working as a deputy, and there's not as much going on... until a murder occurs. Tessa is on the case--which has to do with some nude art!--and is struggling to watch her mother at the same time. The family tension and (possible) romantic interest is a nice touch. These are smaller little novellas which make for a fun, quick read/listen. Enjoyed this novella more than the first and am eager to pick up the next book in the series.

I'll be honest: this was a firm DNF for me. I only got about 60 percent of the way through before I had to give up in pure exasperation from the boneheaded stupidity of the transparent male love interest. Oooh his MANLY SCENT and his HARD EYES and WOO TRAGIC MILITARY BACKGROUND just so he can be the edge up on the purportedly competent female lead, who enters scenes that are unsecured just so she can be dramatically injured.

Oh and we can't forget that no woman is allowed to do anything without her MANS permission, even if she doesn't know she needs a MAN (tm), and it is ENTIRELY SHADY to paint older women and make them feel attractive because I guess no one is allowed to feel attractive unless we're tittering up our sleeves about how having an occasional cinnamon bun might make our precious all important pant size change by like, half a fucking degree. All of which is apparently more important than proper crime procedure, evidence, or, well, anything but observing how hot someone's cologne is and walking into dark houses belonging to murder victims unarmed so the male lead is justified in not wanting to let women do anything by themselves ever.

Corajosa, guerreira. Muito bom.

Short and sweet. The narrator is not very good but the story is good enough.
