Easy read

This book was really good. I'm really enjoying this series so far ! I like that we can read from different character prospectives!

A Bone to Pick was as mysterious, engaging, and interesting as the first novella Close to the Bone. Only this time Tessa was the central character and investigator, and I liked that change. Plus, I enjoyed the introduction of Logan and the simmering romance between him and Tessa. Not to mention the storyline easily held my interest and I'm looking forward to reading more from this series of novellas in the future.

Not a bad short read

I enjoyed book two in this series. On to the next one. I can't wait to see the bigger picture.

This is my second book in this series. The first had a few plot flaws, but it was short and I enjoyed the characters, so I overlooked them. But this one had plot holes you could drive a fleet of semis through.

**Spoilers Below**

The most glaring was when main characters Tessa - an experienced police officer - and Logan - an ex-military park ranger - go to search a house for Tessa's missing mother. The house is a converted barn, loft style, with 1 bedroom plus an art studio. They pull up, run inside and search. In the moments that it takes them to check a few rooms, the murderer pulls up outside, pours several cans of gas on the barn, and lights it, all without the cop or ex-military guy hearing anything. Before they even exit, the house is engulfed and roof beams are falling. A house can become engulfed in 5 minutes, but how long did it take them to check the 1-bedroom barn to see her mom wasn't there? How did they not hear a vehicle pull up? Or hear someone going back and forth with gas cans and sloshing them on the barn? Ridiculous.

Almost as bad was the hostage scenario. Pam - who's about to turn 50 - grabs an adult male and douses him and herself with gasoline. She grabs him by the sleeve, drops the gas can, and holds a lit lighter in front of them both to keep the police at bay. This sounds like one pretty complacent hostage to stand there while she's doing all that. Too bad he couldn't break that hold she had on his sleeve or maybe try to get away before she was able to douse them both with gas.

Plot issues like this really give me brain ache. I'm done with this series.
