I absolutely love this author and her books. I'm already looking forward to Tyler's book.

Okay, hear me out… I DID like this book. There was just something missing for me. Maybe it was the expectation of more humor (which is totally unfair) or just my disconnect with a few of the characters… I could really never figure it out.

But! I did love how confident Lauren is and how obsessed Nico is… those two things are a recipe for good spice. And let me tell you… the spice was spicin in this one. Not a lot of slow burn and plenty of k*not goodness! She really outdid herself on that front.

Overall, was it my favorite book ever? Maybe not. But it was entertaining as hell and I’d read 10 more books in this series if she wants to write them.

🤨 Ummm- a stalker who watches you for 10 years to protect you and keep you safe? Yeah, Ok. Where was the “dark” part of the the dark romance? Nico was the blandest mafia MMC I have ever read about.

Lights Out was funny and chaotic and exciting! This was not. I’ll still read the next one just because Lights Out was so good.

The best thing about this book was Navessa's writing style. She does a great job at infusing every character and relationship with unique qualities. I didn't particularly love the plot of this book though. It absolutely revolves around Junior and Lauren's relationship, but the sprinkling in of all the side characters and side quests made it hard for me to be invested. It was easy to see the conflict coming from a mile off and had this been by any other author, I would have DNF (I really, really hate the miscommunication trope). The celebration of and respect for sex work was a pretty cool theme throughout.

Story moral: let people find their own happiness and consider yourself lucky if you're along for the ride.

I loved Lights Out! I loved how this book highlighted sex workers and justice for sex workers, but it was still underwhelming  compared to book 1. This book had a more serious undertone. As someone that doesn’t normally read dark romance, this series a fun read overall.

This book is darker than the first book (Lights out), but that shouldn't be a deterrent to reading it. Just be prepared for it if you've read the first book and are expecting the same book with a different font. you will not find that here.

Nico “Junior” Trocci is a mafia heir and walking red flag with a stalking problem, the object of his obsession being a high school flame he hasn’t seen - but has been keeping tabs on and intervening on her behalf - for a decade, Lauren Marchetti. Lauren is a ‘kink club queen’ and CamGirl who doesn’t realize her top subscriber since day 1 is the man who broke her heart and ruined her reputation in high school. Tired of being controlled by his mob-boss dad and staying in the shadows to take vengeance on those who wronged Lauren, Nic is determined to finally get what he wants and Lauren’s ready to reignite the flame he lit that nobody’s been able to match since.

Spoilers to come…
Lauren and Junior/Nic had plenty of angst and I love a second chance romance, but they just didn’t have the *spark* that Josh and Aly did in Lights Out. There was plenty of obsession and spice, but there was no… unhinged charm. They felt fairly dull in comparison because their connection was mainly about lust and lacked humor and chemistry. Lauren’s friends and dog were the comic relief and their scenes brought moments of levity to a heavy-feeling plot. Lauren was all about her sex work and Nic was all about (getting out of) the mob and supporting her sex work. It’s awesome Lauren found someone who supported her career/kinks and even better that she was able to awaken some new kinks for Nic, BUT, I wanted more silly scenes where she made him laugh and they bonded emotionally instead of purely physical.

Will I still listen to the next book in the series, which I assume will be about Tyler and Stella? Yeah.

I loved this more than the last book. It was freakier than the last book, and it was more intense. I liked the mafia and Italian ties, and it was nice to see parents in therapy.
