This reminded me of The Courageous Princess graphic novel trilogy in the best possible way. I cannot wait to continue this series!

I love the strong female heroine in this story and that she is also a character of color. We have so few if any stories out there like this that for that reason alone I love this. Add to it a great storyline, snappy humor, and just a plain fun read and I'm hooked.

Funny, empowering, action-packed.

I LOVED THIS!

Finally, someone turning the save the princess and female superhero tropes on their heads! Every little girl, and boy, should read this. Adrienne is the perfect amount of sassy as she calls out sexism and takes charge. I immediately requested the next three from the library and might go out and buy them so I don't have to wait.

How have I never read this graphic novel before? I adore this series and wish I had discovered it as a young girl. Adrienne is awesome and I want to be her when I grow up.

I'M SO GLAD THIS GRAPHIC NOVEL EXISTS!!! badass women who are talented and likable and funny – this book is FUNNY i literally laughed aloud at the crack about ~socialism~~ – and, personally, i'm crossing my fingers that adrienne and bedelia are gay (did you SEE those hearts around bedelia's face pls). i really love when it gets meta, too – like, the critique of warrior women's totally impractical costumes is totally canon here.

it's not perfect – my biggest quibble is that imo the flow from bubble to bubble can sometimes be too unclear. and with a graphic novel, that can really get in your way. i also really felt that this first volume was maybe a bit too heavy on the exposition?

...still, HARD YES to everything this book is and does.

OHMIGOD this was so amazing! So glad I gave this a go!

The Premise: In this world it is the custom for princesses to be locked in a tower, given a fearsome guardian and to wait for a brave knight to come by and rescue her. The same fate befell Princess Adrienne and all of her sisters. Then, one day, she finds a sword beneath her bed and decides the knights can all go screw themselves and she's going to save herself.

The Art Style: The illustrations are full colour. I adore Mia Goodwin's style so much! It's such a shame she hasn't got more of her work out there, I'd read it all simply because of her great art. Sadly, she only worked on the first volume, the artist changed for the second one, so keep that in mind if you decide to stick around for the art.

The Execution: Sassy female characters who take their fate into their own hands, a diverse cast of characters, loads of action and quick-witted dialogue, what is not to love? Also, I liked that such topics as the typical fantasy clothing were touched upon - how men get really cool armor and women only metal bikinis. This is the kind of empowering, funny and fast-paced graphic novel my younger self would have devoured, but which I enjoyed just as much as an adult. Just saying, this is perfect for a broad range of ages. Also, I love the main character - following Adrienne along her quest is so much fun!

i can't seem to give many books five stars lately.. but i still really liked this

So. Good. A princess who saves herself, goes to save her sisters, has a great relationship with her brother, has both parents living (seriously, losing one or both of your parents when you are young is not the only way to become strong, unlike what every other freaking scifi/fantasy/comic would have you believe), has a sidekick who is a female blacksmith, openly mocks "sexy" lady-hero costumes, AND IS OF COLOR?!?! Fuck. Yes.

I can not wait for the next editions to come out!

So fun! I definitely wished I had all of them at my fingertips the day I picked this up. I would have flown through them.
