I love the author's style of writing. You always feel like you're part of the story. Apart from that, i loved Mavericks character development amongst all the things happening to him. Such a good read.

Full RTC but this was amazing. Angie Thomas has made magic again!

The ending felt pretty abrupt, and as good as this book was I didn't find it *quite* as powerful or compelling as the first one (which is perhaps unfair because that's an *extremely* high bar). I kept waiting for the story behind the fall he took that we very briefly learned about in THUG. I'm glad to get a book that didn't make that the focus though, because it does foreshadow the kind and honorable man he was in that story. So CR was still a great and insightful book that I'm glad I got to read.

So many important topics and lessons are addressed in this book! I want all my high schoolers to read it! It’s also easy to get this one into their hands since The Hate U Give was so popular. It’s always hard to find strong books with male protagonists that I can give to my male students, so I’m happy to add this to my list.

This was so great! Definitely not as good as The Hate U Give, but still fantastic. I loved getting Maverick's origin story and learning more about how Seven and Starr came to be.

I think the pacing felt a little off and that's why I'm giving it 4 instead of 5. The random time jumps (we're talking... MONTHS) and conflict resolutions that came out of left field left the story feeling more shallow than it could have been. I felt like I was reading a summary instead of a story since it just kinda skimmed over Maverick's entire youth.
