Lisa was so boring, I don't know what he saw in her. I came here for Maverick and Seven, could have done without Lisa she kinda dragged the book down a little.
A fast and enjoyable read that will suit anybody who read The Hate U Give, which I now want to reread with the adult generation's history in mind. Angie Thomas is amazing at speaking about important topics and difficult lives while for the most part keeping the book light-hearted and easy to read.

4.25/5
I LOVED this book. Angie Thomas did it again.
SPOILERS:
Maverick is a character who struggles so much with all that life and the repercussions of his mistakes throw at him. His father is in jail, he becomes a teen parent, his cousin is horrifyingly shot, he struggles with making money, he’s in love with a girl who isn’t sure she loves him back, he’s torn between the pressures of what’s right vs. his gang, he’s failing high school, and he gets two girls pregnant and needs to learn how to care for two of his own children.
This book was so character driven and I loved that part of it so much. It was so amazing to see Maverick grow throughout the book, hearing all his raw thoughts, his mistakes, his actions, his conversations with those around him. It was a beautifully written book and I def recommend it!!

Maverick was my favorite character from The Hate U Give, so the fact that this is all him was a good set up for me to enjoy it. He's incredibly compelling. Very human. Very easy to root for even when he makes choices that seem unwise or you just know are going to have consequences.
I admire Thomas's craft and how she writes in such a way that you don't even notice these characters and their story pulling you in. You're just invested and eager to see what this piece of the bigger picture is going to reveal.
