I am torn on this book. I loved the main character, I loved her story of going out alone to be successful in her chosen field. I love that she gave a big F U to the corporate men. I also loved the family relationships. But, ultimately I did not like the love story, that is obviously the key plot point to the book. What I look for in books is organic stories which you see develop, very much "show not tell". But I found that this book just told me what was going on at any given point, and whilst we knew how it was going to end (because everyone loves the enemies-to-lovers trope), I don't think it was well fleshed out in the middle. A good attempt, a very solid main character, a mediocre love story.

I thoroughly enjoyed this humorous novel. It isn't exactly a romantic comedy as there is lots of focus on Katherine taking control of her life. In many ways, the romance takes second billing to the dynamic of family and friends. The dramatic segments of the story portray the difficulties in becoming an adult, no matter your age.

The banter between Katherine, her brother, father, step-mother, and best friend make this book a winner. Several of these conversations are laugh-out-loud funny.

As I said, the romance is there but not my main takeaway from the story. Kit provides the romance, while John becomes the antagonist. However, in my opinion, brother Adam is the real hero in this story. It's rare, but refreshing, to have a brother support his sister to such a degree.

The story build-up was slow to start but picked up nicely in the second half of the book. The characters and situations were completely believable.

I recommend Accidentally in Love to readers of contemporary fiction and happily-ever-after romances with lots of humor.

I received an advance review copy of the book. The above is my honest, unbiased opinion.

Okay, this book is so freakin cute! There is so much going on in the story that it’s really impossible to recap it all. If you love a good meet-cute rom-com you’ll love this book! I loved that it revolved around the art world, family, friendships, and love. The characters were complex and had realistic struggles that made the book feel relatable.

Accidentally In Love revolves around Katherine, who is tired of getting passed over at work, and finally decides that enough is enough! Quitting her job, standing up to her... maybe-boyfriend, and making a decision that will change her life forever. Katherine decides to open her own art gallery, and won’t let anything stand in her way.

The book is set in London and Sheffield and mainly takes place in an art-centric universe. Katherine is a curator, art gallery owner, and photographer. Most of her family is involved in art. Her father owns an art store and participates in art courses run by Kit and Fiona (her step-mom) is an artist. Kit (the love interest) is an artist who also runs an art school and works to promote local artists. Although it’s definitely a rom-com this book is so much more than that! There are great storylines focused on family, death, what happens when friends grow and change over the years.

This was a well-written, sweet and inspiring story about finding yourself, change, grief, and falling in love. Katherine is our 30-something protagonist living in London and working at a prestigious museum. When she is passed up for the promotion she worked for and knows she deserves, she quits her job. She takes a leap of faith and moves back near her family to open an art gallery of her own and yes, maybe fall in love.

I enjoyed this book a lot but not for the reasons I was expecting. If you follow any of the books I read, you know I love romances. I requested this on NetGalley because I thought I was getting a sweet, lighthearted romance. Everything from the cover to the synopsis made me think that’s what I was getting. I was honestly taken aback by the more serious tone of the book and the fact that there was no romance at all for the first half of the book. I need witty banter, flirting and sexual tension! Yes, there was some towards the end but not nearly enough for what I usually like in a romance.

That being said, I actually really enjoyed reading about Katherine’s self-development throughout the book. She quits her job and follows her dream to start her own art gallery and business. She left her sometimes-on sometimes-off boyfriend because she decided she deserved more than that. Yes girl! She hustled to get her business up and running with renovating the building, registering her business and social media advertising. Katherine knew what she wanted and I loved reading about her tackling her dreams.

Once the romance got going, it was definitely sweet. Kit was pretty awful to Katherine for the first half of the book and had a sudden change of heart that I guess was explained when we learn more about his past but it was still abrupt. However, watching their relationship build through working on the art gallery together was sweet and I was rooting for them the entire way.

Another aspect of this book I really appreciated were all the side characters. Katherine’s relationship with her best friend Lainey was so realistic. As they are getting older their relationship has changed – Lainey has been getting married, Katherine moved farther away and this slowly puts a strain on their friendship. Watching them work through this was raw, emotional and authentic. Katherine’s father, stepmother and brother were all fully-fleshed out characters with their own backstory and I enjoyed all of their interactions.

While the pace of this book was a bit slow, I found that I didn’t mind. The writing was engaging, funny and authentic. I was fully invested in Katherine’s journey and wanted to see her art gallery be successful. I recommend this book if you are looking for a story about self-development, change and romance!

Katharine Patterson loves her life in London as an art curator, she has a friends with benefits arrangement with a hot lawyer and a regular Friday night drinks evening with her BFF Lainey, heck she's even got a great flat. Then she gets overlooked (for the third time) for a promotion and (yet again) her firm promotes an under-qualified guy. Thoroughly incensed she quits her job. Then when her FWB guy is less than available she dumps him and decides to move back home to Sheffield and open an art gallery.

But when she visits her father for lunch she's been set up with a supercilious, know-it-all local artist who criticises Katharine's teenage photography and makes sarcastic comments about snobby London galleries. Katharine can't think of anyone she likes less. Until she sees his work and realises he would be the perfect artist for her first exhibit.

I'm a sucker for enemies to lovers romance, throw in a life-changing decision and family angst and I'm all yours. I've read a couple of Belinda Missen's other novels and her heroines (at least in the ones I've read) do seem to throw over their old lives and start again. But that's not a bad thing.

This was warm, with a charming hero, full of friends and family, art and love (OMG also a man who makes you bread!) and I didn't want it to end.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Bumped for release and correcting typos.

Accidentally in Love follows Katharine Patterson after quitting her job to pursue her lifelong dream - opening her own gallery. Along the way, she meets grumpy Kit Dunbar, and sparks fly.

This was a delightful and fun read! Some of the lines were laugh-out-loud hilarious and I enjoyed myself reading this.
This book didn't have the typical romance tropes, which I liked. It was a welcome surprise and made the novel feel more genuine. Additionally, I really enjoyed the art aspect of the book. Katharine’s journey of opening an art gallery was so interesting and fun to read about. Her passion for her dream was one of the many strong aspects of the novel.

In terms of the plot, it was a bit slow-moving and the John romance was too drawn out. However, after Katharine and Kit finally start to converse, it was smooth sailing from there. The slow burn relationship was enjoyable and hilarious but I felt that our protagonists didn’t have much chemistry. This was probably due to them only meeting about halfway within the novel and we didn’t get enough time to learn more about their relationship. The one thing I did not really like was the abrupt and rushed ending. I did not feel any closure and I would have preferred an epilogue to tie things up.

Katharine was so sassy and feisty. I loved her character. She was a bit annoying at first but underwent great character development. I was rooting for her until the end.
I really liked the dynamics between Katharine and Adam. It’s not often you see a healthy sibling relationship in books and I enjoyed their interactions with each other. Missen is great at portraying genuine characters with believable flaws. By the end of the novel, every single character felt like a real person.

Overall, I enjoyed this. It was a sweet, fast-paced romance and I recommend if you’re looking for something with great banter and a cute romance.
