I always liked Thea too but her fate stone journey was never totally compelling for me. You always knew that it would be overcome and she wasn’t going to die.
Wren’s journey as sister to great hero, who knew about magic first, and then suffered loss of best friends and mentor in the war and now pursuing her dream was immediately more interesting for me.

I was so worried this was going to be a copy and paste of Blood & Steel series, but it wasn't! I adored this book and can not wait for book 2!

Listen. Iron & Embers is that girl—the book that struts in, wrecks your emotional stability, and leaves you begging for book two. Helen Scheuerer has officially leveled up her game with this spicy, twisty, soul-punch of a romantasy.

I tried I really did but I DNF this. Got to about 76% and just didn’t care to know how it ended. There was no plot really besides two main characters that like each other but found stupid reasons not to be together for most of the book. If all you care about is spice and little plot you might like this but it fell flat for me. I have too many good books in the queue to waste more time on this one.
I saw some reviews saying the ending or last 10% was great but I’ll just have to take their word for it…

Unfortunately this did not hit as much as the OG trilogy did, it was still good but there were some truly infuriating themes. For one, wren until the mid/end is literally so intolerably irritating. For two, there is legitimately zero reason for torj to break her heart after the soul bond is broken, like you don’t need to forcibly distance yourself because it no longer can hurt her? Dumbass. For three, you’re telling me ~the best strategists in the kingdom~ captured a handful of what was clearly an extremely organized rebellion and were like that’s it! There’s no more issues. Let’s put all of the royals in a room together :-) like are you JOKING. I just felt like things were a bit too obvious and predictable
