This was a good start to the series, and I especially loved Wren’s emotional arc like her grief, guilt, and slow journey toward healing felt so genuine. Torj’s POV added great depth, though I struggled a bit with the romance; their chemistry needed a stronger foundation for me to really believe in it. Some pacing issues and underused side characters aside, the world was immersive and the political setup by the end has me intrigued. I’m definitely curious to see where book two takes us especially with that ending!

A long novella which is the precursor to a series of a war it seems. Perhaps I should have read blood and steel before this as that’s the precursor-series I believe.

It is a good book. A bit obvious in its foreshadowing in places. Or that could be due to years of reading fantasy romance books so the plot is easy to spot.

The characters are a bit laborious due to them being ‘damaged’ after the prior war.
Healing, new found family developing, long lost love kindles finally, achieving dreams and evil lurking. It is a good read and I am excited to see what comes next, what I guess correctly or completely wrong.

So excited that we get to keep living in Thezmarr. I’m so curious where Scheurer is taking the baddie plot and how she will find a way for Wren & Torj to be together (because they obviously have to be together). Good set up for a magical dangerous school of alchemy.

Was excited to read Torj and Wren's story, now to wait for the second book.
