I think the teachers who taught me how to read as a child would be disappointed in the things I choose to read as an adult. Let them be disappointed. 3/5

I found out pretty quickly that I may not be the target audience for this novel, but wow is this really bad science fiction. The heroines are altogether helpless in pretty much everything, the writing leaves you cringing every few pages, and it's absolutely awash with overdone romance and fiction tropes.

Dixon was able to at least make an interesting alien planet that feels filled with awesome alien flora and fauna, but her writing fails to capitalize on that and suffers from some pretty glaring ethical murkiness in the romantic themes she chose. Half of the story is told from the male alien's perspective: He is the definition of no-thoughts-head-empty, immediately "love-at-first-sight" for the female lead, and ultimately not interesting. I highly recommend reading anything else.

Not as bad as I was expecting. I mostly read this as a random palate cleanser from reading a really intense series, and I needed something I wouldn't have to get too invested in. This was a good 3 star read, just average at best but not mindblowingly the best thing I've ever read. I enjoyed it for what it was.

In the beginning with the abduction of the girls and then the rape of one of them, I very nearly stopped reading because I wasn't sure I wanted to deal with that type of story. Thankfully it didn't continue, and by the time everyone crash landed on the ice planet, it turned more into a survival story with a bit of smut included. I think I mostly stayed bc the aliens in this story weren't horrible.

There were some points of convenience, but it got the story through what it was meant to be. So yknow, good enough. I knew what I was signing up for.

Solid 3/5, just average and a good thoughtless time

Hmmmm. I was hoping to like this but I didn't have the best time. Setting the stakes so high in the beginning makes the unfortunately genre typical lapses in consent way less bearable. I did like the comedic elements and the spice but overall there were too many tropes that were very much not for me.

Shorshie!! Bahahaha the language barrier, while hindering progress, was super cute. I just finished reading "Choosing Theo" (which I also loved) & found this recommendation in another reader's review so had to check it out - & glad I did. I rather enjoyed it. Who knows if I'll make it to book #21, but I'll for sure make it to book #2.

Why did I enjoy this book? 😅

✨ Spoilers ✨
I mean there were things I didn’t enjoy. I’d recommend skipping THAT scene right at the start (it destroys the tone of the book - checks TWs). There’s insta love, a pregnancy trope and it’s all around a bit weird. 🤔

But, I couldn’t help but speed read this in a day. It was quite refreshing after some pretty heavy chunky reads. I’ve never read anything like it. Turns out alien smut isn’t a total no - who knew? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also shout out to the illustrator of these covers - absolutely stunning 🏔️
