I liked the weird moments like how a earthworm can be subdivided infinitely, or spider milk as hallucinogen, or even fictional ant sex. I guess this book just stuck in an awkward spot between weird and mundane. And how a comic about ants still manages to be misogynistic.

I love this artist’s style so much! An hilarious and weird story about ants that act like people.

Read this outside in the grass, definitely saw the ants a bit differently after. A beautiful comic and the story reminded me of a bizzaro Thoreau's Battle of the Ants

DeForge is brilliant. Every year I add a writer or two to a mental list of people whose work has really fucked me up while engaging with it. After both Ant Colony and Very Casual, I feel safe saying DeForge is on that list. The art is brilliant and disturbing. It's impossible to look away from. But unlike, say, Greg Irons (whose art is equally upsetting and difficult to put down), DeForge's writing strikes a balance with his art. His worlds feel real. His characters are honest. And looking into the work I'm not disturbed by the wild imagination, but by how clearly I can see myself reflected in this alien world. I'm very excited what DeForge's forthcoming work will look like.

This is probably the most bizarre thing I've ever read. I think I liked it, but I'm not 100% sure. I think I mostly liked it. I think it's about the unpredictability of life. Maybe. Something to do with life, I'm sure. It also touches upon existentialism a lot.

Vibrant illustrations, but I ultimately didn't connect.
I think I was expecting something a little more accessible and anthropomorphic.
I mean, I'm looking at a page with images of a blender and a baseball bat. And it's getting all kinds of acclaim.
I'm coming out nonplussed.
