Loved it, but some things did feel a bit too convenient. The relationship was so good and I love Maude.

4.5 stars. If she used the words “liminal space” 50% less this could be a five star book for me.

If not for the magic elements, this read a lot like a 1930s/40s noir mystery. The magic made it even better. The sapphic romance was a delightful touch, rounding out the milieu VERY nicely.

I wasn’t charmed. Painfully boring.
But Violet and Maud are fleshed out characters, better than the first book’s couple.
The Story of the Forsythia Club was the biggest waste of time. Nothing is learned that hasn’t already been explained.
The prose is still filled with tortured metaphors. Everything else I’m chalking up as “not bad, just not to my taste.”
