I read this without reading the first book as I was told I could read it as a stand alone and for the most part I agree with that. It found the characterization of Maude and Violet was clunky. I found it difficult to fully understand their characters but still enjoyed watching their relationship grow. Also speaking of characters there was an insane amount of side characters in this. I guess that’s just something I’m not used to but it was hard for me to keep track. I recognize this just isnt my type of book but would still recommend to the right person.

I enjoyed this book 2 in the series and am going to go to 3 quickly! I had a long break between 1 and 2 and I had to go back and google a plot synopsis to refresh my memory about the characters and plot.
I liked that it was all set aboard a ship on a transatlantic trip. It made for a nice setting and closed set of characters.
