A Restless Truth

Reading this as an ARC may have been a grave tactical error for someone as impatient as me. Now I have to wait *even longer* for the third book.

I’m happy to report that A Restless Truth does not seem to suffer from the dreaded Mid-Series Slump. It is as thrillingly phenomenal as its predecessor, and quite a long list of other adjectives as well. If I had to pick just three, I’d add opulent, mysterious, and breathtaking.

Maud Blythe was a engaging character to follow on this mostly self-contained new adventure that still neatly carries the arc of the larger story. (I think Freya has a knack for it.)

I look forward with great anticipation to what is sure to be a grand finale. The wait is going to be unbearable.

This book is trying to do A Lot and achieves most of it reasonably well. I enjoyed it enough and look forward to the next book. Still…something feels Missing! I don’t know what.

Magic romp on a boat. Maud and Violet are delightful. Loved Violets system of magic as illusion and theater- I really connect with the concept of stitching as magic and disguise.

I wanted to love this book so much but it really didn’t live up to the first one.

Continuation to [b:A Marvellous Light|53217284|A Marvellous Light (The Last Binding, #1)|Freya Marske|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1634067514l/53217284._SY75_.jpg|80535939], a charming closed circle sapphic mystery romp. It works through the charming characters and humour - plot, I feel, is not so important here due to the setup (being on a cruise ship), this reader is less invested in if the cup is found and more on the characters (YMMV). It's just pure delight from start to finish, not serious or high brow - but perfect as it is.
