What I expected was something fun, fluffy, and forgettable. What I got was characters that came alive, super-snappy dialogue, tight plotting, and overall a lovely balance of humor and drama. Akin to the very best of romantic comedy movies.
This is one of the funniest books I've ever read. The characters are ridiculous, but in the best way possible. There're so many twists in the story that I was not expecting. I was not bored reading this book. Really worth reading.
This is my absolute favourite Jennifer Crusie book and the one I turn to when other books have let me down. It makes me laugh. I love cranky homicidal Agnes, I love sexy understanding get it done Shane, I love the cast of quirky characters - Joey, three wheels, Lisa, Carpenter, Evie and even crazy Brenda, I love the Dixie Chicks references, I love the instant yet solid relationship between Agnes and Shane.
I think the Crusie/Mayer partnership is starting to hit its stride. I really liked this book, and I felt it held together better than Don't Look Down. Great characters, interesting plotline. There was a fairly unbelievable body count, but atill highly entertaining.
I was skeptical at first as there was too much going on but I soon caught up with all the characters. Bet me by @jennifercrusie is my absolute favorite romance book. And this one reenforces my love and admiration for her writing. While the mob details and goverment entanglement in a romance book could easily turn cringey, Crusoe with her Cranky Agnes made this book amongst the memorable ones. Shane's character was wholesome too. He took everything very realistically and although small, his love declaration was very antidramatic and real.
