I quite enjoyed this one. The story was interesting and it made me laugh numerous times. Even Rhett the dog had his comedic moments. Too bad there’s not a sequel :-D

This was a reread for me, and I loved it just as much as last time!! I would say it's closer to 4.5 stars for me. Such a fantastic book!! The humour and the twists are amazing, and I absolutely love Agnes!! She is such a fantastic character. The characters and plot are done well, I think! I devour this book each time I read it!!

This also worked better for me as a reread than it did initially -- some of the violence was a bit hard to take from the 'good guys' on the first read, but it does feel a lot more justified/understandable to me now. I enjoyed the romance, the plot was solid if unexceptional, and it was just a fun, light read.

Jennifer Cruise is always a safe bet for a fun, breezy, and occasionally steamy read, and she does not disappoint with this one. Wacky neighbors, obnoxious family, unfairly good descriptions of delicious sounding food, and some serious chemistry between our leads.

This book is a slow burn. It grew on me about half-way through. The main character takes that much time to grow a backbone, come into her own, and be the sassy badass she tries to suppress that she actually is. Add a hitman to the mix, and deep-seeded history of mafia and bad blood, and you've got an entertaining little romance on your hands.

Agnes is a spitfire. She's fiery, and sassy, but it takes her a while to get there. Also, points for wielding a frying pan as a weapon of choice. Shane is a fantastic mix of brute force and take-no-shit that she needs to keep her centred. And she's just as capable of doing the same for him.

While quite conventional as a romance, the few intriguing mysteries - mostly mob related - are quite adept at keeping one's interest. I'd go so far as to say it's really adorable - I'm a sucker for adorable.

I'm definitely on the lookout for more from this author.

I think this is the last major Crusie that I had left to read? Until she puts out another book??? (Not that I'm waiting anxiously or anything...) Anyways, this is a delight. Starring Agnes the angry, swinging her frying pan at anyone who threatens her dog and a wacky cast of characters who all need to be fed, plus the hero, the strong silent type, whose name I've already forgotten, but he's the strong, silent type (hit man, of course) who falls hard for Agnes, her anger, and her cooking. This book had everything I love in Jennifer Crusie's writing: a ridiculous action, satisfying romantic plot, many friendships, and a found family, plus the extras of a Mafia wedding, gators, and flamingos. Heh.
adventurous funny lighthearted fast-paced
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

3.5, rounding up. Cute and funny, exactly what I expect from Jennifer Crusie!

I really don't have a handle on how I feel about this book. Part Married to the Mob, part cozy romance novel, part domestic murder mystery but all of those parts don't ever quite add up to a coherent whole. There were characters I enjoyed and moments of terrific humor but the darkness was frequently too dark and the characters multiplied in a fashion reminiscent of a bad farce.

Romantic comedy bliss!
