I enjoyed this one. It was funny and the plot kept moving. I would recommend this book. Not as odd as wild ride...which was very odd.
Another example of T.V. in book form. I think it's time to back off the escapist stuff and read something that engages a couple of brain cells.
This is one of the funniest books I have read in a long time. Jennifer Crusie is wonderful. This is a book I keep picking up over and over again. I think it is probably in my top 10 favorite books. The humor is just my style.

Taking it for what it was, selected when trying to find a non serious read for a book club. Plot was very predictable in parts mixed with a variety of unbelievable parts. Not sure why repetition on the spoken phrase “Humor. Har.” Enjoyable enough for an unserious read.
OK, this was actually really good! I was hoping it would be fun and light, and it is. But it also has an edge that I appreciated, and such an effective mashup of tropes!
Agnes is a chef/food writer with anger management issues and a way with buttery pancakes, among other foods. I loved her and loved that she has curves! The hitman is Shane, who shows up to protect Agnes at the request of his uncle Joey, after Agnes is attacked in her kitchen by a bumbling dude who seems to be after Agnes's dog more than Agnes herself.
While Agnes and Shane deal with continuing danger and their attraction to each other, Agnes has to pull off a fancy wedding or lose her house; and Shane has to settle his latest "contract". But are Agnes' troubles and Shane's hit somehow related? Is there anyone in this book who isn't related, is a better question! Meanwhile, the grandmother of the bride is trying everything to make sure the wedding does NOT happen at Agnes's place!
From pink sand to Mob connections, from secret basements to hidden bombs, there are plenty of laughs and also plenty of action and dead bodies - so this isn't a cozy mystery - and the writers have balanced it all so deftly. It's even pretty well written, given all its ridiculousness. I was rooting for Agnes and Shane all the way! I think this would make a really fun movie.

This was a fairly quick read and ideal for beach days. While you won't find classic literature here, you will find amusing characters and some action. Parts of the 'mystery' are fairly obvious from the start but it kept my attention until the end. My only major complaint is the constant reminder that they're part of the mob. I mean on every page, there's a reminder that the mob is involved. Did you catch that the mob is involved?
If you're looking for a quick romp in the swamp then you won't be disappointed here.

This was so fun! I enjoy these co-written books by Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayer; like the Liz Danger books, there's a kookiness or zaniness to Agnes and the Hitman which might be annoying in the hands of another author, but which really works here. Can't wait to read more books by these authors in future!
Authors Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayer make for an interesting pairing in this fast-paced romantic mobster dark comedy. Despite the body count and crude language, Crusie and Mayer manage to provide the reader with lots of laughs and witty banter. However, some readers may not appreciate the over the top antics and larger than life characters. Agnes shines as the anti-hero protagonist whose weapon of choice is a frying pan. The ending seemed to be a little forced and contrived, but overall, Agnes and the Hitman is a raucous and rollicking ride.
