I knew I would like the book because it has two of my favourite things; dark romance and mermaids, but I didn’t expect it to be one of my favourite reads of the year so far.
This was such a fun retelling!
The tension between the characters was amazing.
I enjoyed the whole book so much, until around 70%, where I could've sworn the book must be over any second. It just felt like the tension had built, the climax happened, then the aftermath, and I was like, wait, why are there still 30% left? I ended up skimming more than reading then, and it wasn't bad, I just felt like I was over it. To be fair, I generally have a problem with couples getting together too early (for me) and losing interest, which played a part too, and I know from other people that not everyone feels like that.
I thoroughly enjoyed the first 70% and didn't mind skimming the rest, so I'm still very happy with this book. Will definitely check out more books by this author.

The FMC is a clueless virgin, but imo that was fun and enjoyable, and it was great to watch her gain knowledge, confidence, and set aside the beliefs she got taught.I enjoyed the whole book so much, until around 70%, where I could've sworn the book must be over any second. Truly amazing!
If you love 'enemies to lovers' 'fantasy' and Disney, then Gods, is this the book for you!
I'm not usually one for a cute happy ever after but this one really had me over joyed. Full of spice and lots of jealousy.

This is absolutely a book for anyone who looked at the bad guy and wondered if they weren't actually that bad after all. It's for lovers and haters of the Disney versions equally.
This book is a reminder that the things we assume are good and bad aren't always so black and white.
The world building is excellent and the romance developes so smoothly with the story you can't help but be swept along with it. And the spice!!! Oh. Wow. The tension builds with each moment between them and it's so satisfying when they finally get what they've both been craving.
Definitely recommend!!

I went in to this book thinking (for whatever reason) that the sea witch would continue to be a female and was gleefully surprised to find they’re a man.
Averil (I like the play on that, clever) is a mermaid who happens to save a human man, a prince, from a ship wreckage.
The sea witch (who’s a man) watches this all unfold and knows, just knows, that Averil is going to want to be human. And it works so well for his plan… his revenge…
This is an enemies to lovers, monster romance, with a dash of forced proximity? I’d say so.
I. Loved. It.
It is super long, compared to the “monster” romance I normally read but I couldn’t put it down. Hands down will never look at Ariel or Ursula the same.

Little Mermaid re-telling. Soooo good! days later and I can't stop thinking about it!
Dark fairytale retellings are ABSOLUTELY IT for me. AND AND AND I will one-click Rebecca F. Kenney till the day I die if she continues to write books like this.
enchanting and sad and lovely
I didn’t know what to think going into it, but I immediately fell in love. I couldn’t put the book down. I loved the twists and turns, how the story took shape, and the way the author wrote this story anew. The heartbreak was worth it.
