Paradojico e impresionante.

This isn't a love story at all. This is a story about a man who became infatuated with a beautiful, shallow woman who he initially hated. He's a horny incel who got lucky and No每s slept with him because she thought he was odd. Harlan then goes on to feud with his superiors because he thinks they're wrong and he has a false sense of entitlement and unfounded confidence. The arguments with his superiors ends up with Harlan almost destroying the world as they knew it because hes horny for No每s who he hooked up with! It's not love at all. Then he doesn't take any accountability and get his sorry ass saved by Twissell (the best character). Twissell is incredibly patient and kind to Harlan, who has no business receiving any grace. Harlan was made a fool by Twissell, Finge, AND No每s. What a stupid stupid man. Harlan is the WORST character in this book and makes me cringe so hard.
The book gets 4 stars though because without Harlan nothing else would have happened. No每s fabricated the whole thing and is amazing.

Quick read. It makes me wonder if 1955 in Back to the Future was referring to the release of this book?

It makes me want to go out and buy another Asimov story.

Huh. What just happened?

This gem of a novel is a little dated, but I always find it interesting to see how science fiction writers imagined the future, especially writers who were also scientists. (The main character keeps printed volumes rather than commiting them to "microfilm;" apparently Asimov didn't imagine digital files.) It also always amuses me to read about Computers who are humans, not machines.

My biggest issue with this book was modified by the big plot twist I won't reveal. The End of Eternity despite its age is still very very readable and engaging. Someone needs to make a movie.

Note: my favorite review that I read about this book comes from Glenn McDonald at NPR. It contains this wonderful line: "In the course of his work, Harlan falls in love with the fetching No每s Lambent, a beautiful aristocrat with her umlauts in all right places (writing about women was never Asimov's strong suit). " Ha!
