Fascinante.
Absolutely One of My Favorites!
I finished reading this again, for the third time, and enjoy it as much as the first time I read it. Not only for this to be published in 1955 as a science fiction it is still a great science fiction today. Time Travel is always fascinating and to find writers who can weave it through in a significant way other than just for the sake of time travel is appreciated. One of those books of old that is a must read.

I though this was a great concept for a story, especially having read a lot of time travel stories. It gets into some of the underlying questions of what happens when you start changing time, and even provides a pretty good answer. If you've read the Foundation books, you can see some of the connection here that Asimov created later in his life.
This book has a tidiness to its plot that the best time-travel stories all have. It isn't needlessly complicated. I was worried that it was going to turn into a treatise on humanity or love, but Asimov steers the reader towards a great conclusion. I enjoyed the second half of the book much more than the first.
Incredibile, davvero incredibile.

I love old sci-fi. It's always interesting to see what predictions come true and what things people used to be worried about. Unfortunately, the characters in this book were somewhat 1-dimensional, with especially stereotypical and lazy portrayals of women (well woman since there was only one female character). Doubly unfortunately, though more interesting because of it, is that the 1-dimensional characters who put their whole stock in the brilliance of man and rationality and being able to calculate out and shape the future are not so far-fetched in 2023.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but the undercurrent, made very explicit at the end of the arrogance of man in believing that with science he can decide what is best for others and force an entire reality upon them without their consent or knowledge seems to align very much with the current technocratic/economistic mode of governing of the past few decades.
As nonfiction, this book is somewhat lacking. But as a look at past concerns about science and technology and comparing them to today, it had some great insights and got me thinking.

The story and ideas in this book were intriguing, but the characters were so dull and obnoxious that I could not enjoy it. The lack of women in any prominent role, as well as the sexist way they were portrayed in the story, also made this very irritating to read
I have to admit, this one snuck up on me. This is also my first read of Isaac Asimov!
Had I been reading it instead of listening to it, I very likely would have put it down and never finished it. I'm really glad I stuck it out, as there were some major twists and turns in the plot-line that I didn't see coming - one of my favorite things about reading!
