This was an excellent thriller. It was really hard to know who to believe. I couldn’t predict what was happening or going to happen. I was surprised and shocked by the ending! It was an excellent story. Highly recommended for those who love mysteries and thrillers.

Loved it!  Amazingly well-crafted page turner. Podcast concept was brilliant. Masterful.  I read the first half the book and listened to the second half of the book via Audible. I think this book really shines as an audiobook—-a full cast and the chilling music make it seem like you really are listening to a podcast!

This was an engaging read…and not because I necessarily enjoyed what I was reading. It was hard and dark. At some points the content made me so uncomfortable I wanted to skip past it, like I would a tv show.
I like the format of the Netflix style documentary, it made me invested to know how all the puzzle pieces fit together. I also like books that make me really wonder who is telling the truth. The Fair family were all challenged in their own ways, none of them innocent in the end. But what really happened to Brooke? I 100% don’t trust Josie but like…her story at the end seems plausible. I’m really not sure.
at the end of it all, I feel bad for some of the characters and ended the book feeling melancholy that endings are just…sad.

I want to start out by saying that I really loved this book, and I would highly recommend it to any thriller lovers (except make sure you check the content warnings!). It was so dark and so creepy and so incredibly engaging. I really could not stop reading it. It's also a super fast read, which was exactly what I was looking for when I picked it up. This book is getting a good bit of hype right now and I think it deserves every bit of it! I was a little nervous going into it since I found another book by this author to be predictable and slightly boring, but this book was anything but! I was so invested in the story the entire time, and I don't think there was a single moment that bored me. It was entirely unpredictable too. I didn't guess any of the many plot twists, and trust me, there are a lot. This entire book is made up of plot twists, really, and they are all so well executed. Honestly, the main reason I'm not giving this the full five stars (even though I really thought I would for the first half of the book) was because I don't think it's going to stay on my mind the way I would want it to. Of all the genres I read, I find thrillers are the easiest for me to forget about unless they are five star favorites. I think I might forget aspects of this book, so I don't think I can give it a full five stars. I just didn't get that feeling I usually do when I've found a new favorite. That being said, this book was incredible, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested! However, as I said earlier, make sure to check content warnings, because there are a lot of topics touched on in this book that can be incredibly triggering for some people!

Needed a good thriller and this did not disappoint! If you’re a fan of unreliable characters, this one is for you. So many varying accounts of events leaves you wondering who is telling the truth, if anyone.
I’ve heard such good things about Lisa Jewell but this is the first book of hers I’ve read. I’ll definitely be picking up more in the future!

Celebrating her forty-fifth birthday at her local pub, popular podcaster Alix Summers crosses paths with an unassuming woman called Josie Fair. Josie, it turns out, is also celebrating her forty-fifth birthday. They are, in fact, birthday twins.

A few days later, Alix and Josie bump into each other again, this time outside Alix’s children’s school. Josie has been listening to Alix’s podcasts and thinks she might be an interesting subject for her series. She is, she tells Alix, on the cusp of great changes in her life.

Josie’s life appears to be strange and complicated, and although Alix finds her unsettling, she can’t quite resist the temptation to keep making the podcast. Slowly she starts to realize that Josie has been hiding some very dark secrets, and before she knows it, Josie has inveigled her way into Alix’s life—and into her home.

But, as quickly as she arrived, Josie disappears. Only then does Alix discover that Josie has left a terrible and terrifying legacy in her wake, and that Alix has become the subject of her own true crime podcast, with her life and her family’s lives under mortal threat.

💭 T H O U G H T S

My interest in thrillers has really waned over recent years (for a variety of reasons), yet Lisa Jewell's is one author that continues to capture my attention and offer fresh takes on the psychological thriller. I honestly never quite know what to expect, which is what I like. And the same can be said for None of This Is True.

The format of this novel is genius! With podcast transcripts interspersed throughout, they offered small snippets of what was to come without giving anything away until the exact right moment. I don't say this often, but this is one of those books that is definitely meant to be listened to. The audio production is fantastic and adds a whole extra layer of tension.

The characters are all equally twisted and unlikeable. I came away not knowing who or what to believe, which I just have a feeling is what the author intended. There are a lot of lies, secrets and acts of revenge.

However, as much as I loved the pacing and entertainment value, I did have conflicting feelings concerning the content. Some of what happens is highly unsettling and I don't feel was handled with care or concern. At different points throughout the narrative there's a certain level of need to suspend belief in order for the plot to progress as it does.

Upon finishing, this one left me with that 'wtf did I just read' feeling. I keep having to remind myself it isn't true-crime, because that's exactly how real it all felt. The ending left me unsettled - which doesn't always work for me, but in this case was perfectly fitting. None of This Is True genuinely felt like nothing I'd ever read before, and since I have consistently enjoyed Lisa Jewell's books, I continue to pick them up when I am in the mood for a thriller.

This book was much better than I expected from a BOTM pick. It was well-written and enthralling, but I wonder how much of that is from the gimmicks used in the audiobook—multiple actors, music, sound effects—I don’t think this book would have been nearly as strong to me if I had read a physical copy with my own eyes, but in the end it was a very interesting story that unraveled well. Some cringe with the stuff about feminism, the attitude toward Josie being groomed, the way people acted about the podcast and true crime stuff in general (accurate but cringe), and COVID-19 being involved, but it didn’t turn me off too much.
