A fabulous short read for young adults (and older).

Great idea: a teenage mother gives birth... To a moose. Which, in this story, is unusual but not unheard of. So we see the accelerated story of parenthood through her loving eyes, with lots of the usual milestones covered, but with slightly different outcomes.

I saw a teenager order this at the library and immediately followed suit, loving Rosoff's longer novels and keen to try shorter fiction that also tells a fun and full story without talking down to readers. I was amused throughout.

Really wanted to hear more! There could be a sequel. Please, Meg?!

Een hilarisch en vreemd boek over een vrouw die een baby eland baart. Ik zag dit boek bij de online bieb en wist dat hij met me mee moest. Ik was wel nieuwsgierig hoe deze eland zou opgroeien en wat er zou gebeuren als ie te groot werd. Het was echt heel leuk om te lezen en ik voelde voor de ouders. Je verwacht als 17 jarige (ja, de moeder is nog een tiener) niet dat je zwanger bent van een eland. Ik vond het ook goed dat naast hoe ga je nou om met een eland (en zorg je ervoor dat ie niet je hele huis sloopt) het ook ging over deze twee ouders die beide nog erg jong zijn maar toch willen proberen het ouderschap een kans te geven. Ik vond het erg goed geschreven. Maar ja, het einde, daar trek ik toch een half sterretje vanaf want dat vond ik gewoon niet mijn kopje thee. Ik vond het gewoon jammer dat Elie zo de over hand (hoef?) had.

Another bizarre but brilliant novella from Meg Rosoff. Somehow, despite the page count barely scraping 90, she paints an honest, believable picture of what happens when teen parents end up giving birth to... well, a moose.
