This was a short look into the Darkling's childhood and one traumatic experience. I honestly did not expect his character to be so completely different from the one we all know and love in the Grisha trilogy, it was to be expected since he was so young though. And damn, it was way too short. This story would need to be way longer for it to have greater emotional impact on me.

He understood then. The Grisha lived as shadows did, passing over the surface of the world, touching nothing, forced to change their shapes and hide in corners, driven by fear as shadows were driven by the sun. No safe place. No haven.
There will be, he promised in the darkness, new words written upon his heart. I will make one.”

The first time I read this I gave it 3 stars - I think mostly because it's so short - but it's still a really interesting story and a good insight into the Darkling's past and also I am absolutely lost in the sauce because of the new show so I'm going to give it 4 stars this time around ;) Definitely well written but I wish it was at least twice as long as it is.

Una corta (y melancólica) historia sobre la infancia del Darkling. Me hubiera gustado mucho más si tuviera más páginas.

It was so unexpected the way it was written! I was expecting the story of how the darkling became so evil or why he created the fold but instead I get the story of a vulnerable thirteen year old boy commiting his first murders and how he felt after them. So UNBELIEVABLE! DARKLING I LOVE YOU! IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT! Saints, I am insane....
The Darkling is my favorite villain of all time! Seriously, he did lots and lots of things: he used people with his tricky words, he massacred entire villages with a flick of his hand but I am in love with this character. All I want is to be by his freaking side and I don't care if I have to watch people die. I will still stay there! I know I KNOWWW I am crazy but if you read this trilogy, you would understand me completely.
