An origin story of The Darkling. Too short, I would have enjoyed more.
This is a really short story about the Darkling preceding the events in Shadow and Bone. I liked the story, but it was simply very short. The book only has one story in it, so it's not deeply revealing the Darkling's character or anything. If you're wondering whether you should read it, I'd say you're not really missing out on anything.
I felt this short story was unnecessary, imo it didn't tell me much about the Darkling at all
Nice backstory for the Darkling. Definitely paints a sad story that doesn't ok who he becomes but does explain it.
This was a very insightful story on the Darkling. I love that I got to see a part of why he is the way he is. I'm glad this was in the back of my copy of Ruin and Rising.
Finally caught up on everything so I can read Rule of Wolves and be done with this universe for awhile
Exactly what I hope for in all novellas. A quick deeper dive into a specific character. The Demon in the Wood gives the reader a better understanding of how he wound up as the villain.
A SUPER short novella about the Darkling. Don’t mind if I do. I might have read this out of order but it was still good. I’d love an entire prequel book about the Darkling’s life!
Very well written short story/novella. Can't wait to read the series.
