I'll admit it, I do feel bad for mr.darkles

I love this, this insight into his past, further reinstates how human he actually is, and that he wasn’t just some “pure evil monster”

I appreciate having more information about the Darkling before he actually became the Darkling. I might not like him as a character because of everything that he's done, but I understand him better now. That doesn't mean I forgive him, though. He's done terrible things and I'm still pissed at him.

"He understood then. The Grisha lived as shadows did, passing over the surface of the world, touching nothing, forced to change their shapes and hide in corners, driven by fear as shadows were driven by the sun. No safe place. No haven.
There will be, he promised in the darkness, new words written upon his heart. I will make one."

I usually don't like novellas, or I think they're just OK and nothing more. But I need to read something quick for the TBRTakedown and my copy of Ruin and Rising came with this extra... so why not! And I'm so glad I read this, because it was so good!
To be honest, I don't love The Darkling like everyone seems to, but I think he is a really good villain. And this story about Mini Darkling was amazing. Leigh Bardugo, you're a queen ♥

"―El Ulle tiene razón ―dijo―. No hay lugar seguro. No hay paraíso. No para
nosotros.

This was certainly an interesting back story to the Darkling. He is like my least favourite character from the books, mainly because of the fact that he is a pedophile who's grooming underaged girls but he's also a well written villain. This short story gave us a biggee insight into his childhood but it also isn't anything terrific. It was good, I enjoyed it. I read it because it was a part of my edition of Ruin and Rising, otherwise I probably wouldn't have read it. It was still cool though.

This was so sad!!!!😭😭💔💔💔💔

I can understand the darkling 1% more now. Still doesn't justify everything he did. I wish Leigh could rewrite the og trilogy in this style.
