I wasn't as big of a fan of the Trials of Apollo, until Tyrant's Tomb, which then became my favorite in the entire series. This, I'm happy to say, follows in Tyrant's Tomb's steps - strong emotional connections between characters, particularly seeing the growth of those we've known and loved in the past. The final confrontation with Nero was handled carefully. However, certain scenes that were built up to be pivotal felt slightly rushed, and fell flat. Rating up because of the strong characterizations, but not a full 5* for the occasional pacing missteps.

I feel similarly about this book as I did with The Last Olympian—it was a fine book, but it was all battle or prepping for battle. But I do appreciate seeing Lester/Apollo's full character development.

I also like the little change Rick does where he has the other characters refer to our sun god as Lester instead of Apollo, to show the main character's growth and humanity.
