My Thoughts Exactly

Lily Allen

3.96 AVERAGE

I have always liked how lily Allen expresses herself - she's direct and funny and often aware of her flaws. This book is gossipy and defensive and unpretentious and insightful in terms of fame and the creative process.

I enjoyed listening to this book as it made it feel more like listening to a friend than reading about a pop star. Lily’s had a hard time with fame and I feel for her but I’m not sure if I would have finished the book if I had been reading it physically.

I think perhaps an excellent book if you’re a real Lily Allen. For me, having been only interested in her as a cultural figure growing up with the same cultural reference points to me, it was an intriguing look into the darker side of the music industry.
She does not hold back on revealing names, and doesn’t paint anyone with a soft brush, so at times it is shocking to hear certain names used, but right on.
She’s had a hell of a time of it.

really enjoyed this! Lily gave a very real presentation of herself and i appreciated that, new found respect for her as an artist, author and human being.

Brutally honest & indepth

Lily holds no punches with her memoirs and is brutally honest about her life. Her take on reviewing her life events is refreshing and not as picture perfect as some other autobiographies or rigged with shock value moments.
She seems to want to set the record straight on a number of issues in her own dark rumoured way; and she does so very successfully. Lily is a master of prose, as well as a clever song lyric.
Well worth a read

Late review --

The first half of this book was a bore. Sounded like a very classic child of celebrities upbringing, a little sad, a little neglectful, but with a lot of classic insecurity. The second half of the book was surprisingly dark and gritty, and much more compelling. I enjoyed this, but I think there are definitely better memoirs out there. It was more fun though because I remember listening to Lily Allen all the time as a child :)
