I didn’t know it was possible to become allergic to certain words, but after reading Allen’s memoir, I now flinch internally whenever I see “co-dependent.”
If you're a fan of Allen's you'll love this book. Her voice comes through loud and clear.
I listened to the audiobook, read by Lily herself and it was absolutely brilliant.
Lily Allen sounds like she's been through a lot of therapy, and good for her for that. This is an honest, raw memoir.
Wow! You think because you’ve seen it in the gossip columns it can’t be true but then you read this book and realise a lot of what they were saying of Lily Allen was either spot on, total crap or didn’t even come close to what was actually going on!
A frank and honest book that really lifts the lid on her life, full of heartbreak, rejection and a need to be loved and accepted.
I certainly came away feeling very sorry for Lily.
An enjoyable balanced autobiography.

I picked this up as an audiobook deal because I had a basic idea of who Lily Allen was, but didn't really know much about her. The book overall was fine. The writing was fine and I applaud her vulnerability in telling her story (which continues to highlight how awful the British tabloid media is), but it did sometimes seem to drag a bit. I think if you're a fan of Allen's you'll want to be sure to pick this one up, but for memoir fans who don't know her, this one may not be as interesting.
I went through an intense Lily Allen phase at the start of her career and appreciated how she used this memoir to wrestle control of her narrative from the tabloids. Her perspective on fame is fascinating, especially in that final chapter and the description of Cartoon Lily. There's a no holds barred feel to her messy thread of becoming a pop star, wife, and mother. And the story of losing her firstborn, ugh, just a punch to the gut, especially as it echoed through the next chapter of her life.
